NFL Power Rankings: 3 Troubled Teams That Will Tumble After Week 2

Josh MartinSep 13, 2011

A victory in Week 1 of the NFL season hardly guarantees that a team will continue its run of success, nor does a loss necessarily condemn a team to go 0-16.

In any case, these three teams will be up against it in Week 2 as they look to either keep their season-opening roll going or stem the impending tide of failure.

Chicago Bears

The Bears enjoyed an otherworldly defensive performance against the Falcons in Week 1, keeping Matt Ryan and Atlanta's dynamic offense out of the end zone in a 30-12 throttling at Soldier Field.

Jay Cutler (312 yards passing, two touchdowns, one interception) and Matt Forte (158 total yards, one touchdown) should be able to continue their success this Sunday against a Saints defense that gave up 42 points to the Green Bay Packers.

However, the same can't exactly be said for Brian Urlacher and the Chicago defense against Drew Brees and company, even without Marques Colston. The Bears may not have broken against the Dirty Birds, but they bent plenty, allowing 386 yards—429 if you add back in the yardage lost on sacks—while benefiting plenty from three Atlanta turnovers.

Don't expect the Saints to struggle to score or hold on to the ball quite as much against the Bears as their NFC South counterparts did.

What's more, with this one going down at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, the Bears will show that they are who we thought they were: a bad team.

Atlanta Falcons

Speaking of the Falcons, they will bounce back from their embarrassing loss to the Bears.

Just not this week, when they welcome Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles to the Georgia Dome.

Atlanta's defense didn't exactly acquit itself well against the Bears in Week 1 and will be hard-pressed to contain Vick and his plethora of playmakers, chief among them LeSean McCoy and DeSean Jackson.

On the other side of the ball, the Falcons should be able to get some movement against Philly's D, especially if they hand the ball off to Michael Turner and let him bulldoze his way through the Eagles' lamentable linebackers.

Of course, Atlanta's offensive line, which let Matt Ryan get sacked five times last week, will have to worry about a Philly pass rush led by Jason Babin, Trent Cole and Cullen Jenkins that racked up five sacks of its own against the Rams while sending half the St. Louis offense to the sideline with injuries.

Oh, and then there's the whole thing about Vick maybe being a tad bit more motivated than usual in his first start back in Atlanta, but that won't change anything, right?

Riiiiiight...

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars were one of the big surprises of Week 1, scoring a 16-14 win over the AFC South rival Tennessee Titans just days after releasing longtime quarterback David Garrard.

I just have a hunch, though, that Jacksonville just might find life a bit more difficult on the road against the New York Jets.

Yes, those same New York Jets who pulled out an emotional 27-24 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football. That same defense that held the Cowboys to all of 64 yards on the ground.

And how, exactly, do the Jags prefer to butter their bread, so to speak? That's right, with their running game, led by Maurice Jones-Drew.

Granted, Mo Jo-Drew is a better back than Dallas' Felix Jones, though he doesn't figure to have that much more success, unless Luke McCown hands it off to him on every play.

Which he probably will.

Let's put it this way: If a team as talented as the Cowboys couldn't pull out a win on the road against the Jets, what are the odds that Jacksonville will have any more success?

Answer? Probably not very good.
