Manny Ramirez: Arrest Latest Saga in Manny's Tumultuous Life

Say what you want about Manny Ramirez, but he is not into dull moments. And now he is in the news once again.

Ramirez has found himself out of work and with plenty of free time this baseball season. These idle times have reportedly led to Manny being involved with the Florida police department.

According to TMZ, Manny Ramirez was taken into custody on Monday for what is believed to be a domestic altercation.

Witnesses tell TMZ Ramirez was taken out of his Weston, Florida home at around 7 PM ET in handcuffs. We're told Ramirez' wife was in the house. Two witnesses tell TMZ Ramirez and his wife were involved in an altercation. Ramirez' wife, Juliana, left the house shortly after Ramirez was taken away in the back of a police car.

So, with his baseball career firmly supplanted in the rear view mirror, Ramirez has controversy finding him in the headlines once again. Headlines that have grown increasingly negative as he has aged.

Ramirez rose to stardom as an enigmatic slugger. He was one of the game's best hitters and worst fielders. Ramirez's dominant bat made him one of the most famous players in the game, and his eccentricities turned him into a pop culture star.

Ramirez's baseball star began to fade as he failed to regain his form after serving a suspension that was the result of positive test for a banned substance. Ramirez was attempting to resurrect his career this season with the Tampa Bay Rays, but was again nailed with another suspension for a failed test.

Rather than face a 100-game suspension, Ramirez took the easy way out and abruptly retired. At that moment, it became clear to me that Ramirez did not want to play baseball without being able to cut corners by taking performance enhancers.

This is something that his legacy can never overcome.

Now Ramirez must adjust to life outside of baseball and the spotlight. This can be an especially difficult task for players that relished the attention and the pampered treatment that came with it, and Manny certainly seems to fall into that category.

Early indications are this is going to be a rough transition.

Hopefully Manny can adjust to this life and find his peace. I would hate for the "Manny being Manny" phrase, that once conjured images of harmless antics on a baseball field, begin to be associated with far more serious real-life issues.
