Week 2 Fantasy Football Projections: 3 Fringe Players Worth Starting

Richard LangfordSep 13, 2011

The key to fantasy success is setting the right lineup. You never want to leave a guy on the bench and have him pop for a big day. The following three players should not be left on the bench in Week 2.

Washington Redskins WR Santana Moss

Santana Moss entered the fantasy season with a big Rex Grossman question mark hanging over his head. That question mark faded a bit after Week 1. The Redskins offense looked solid and Moss had a solid day.

Moss hauled in six catches for 76 yards, and was targeted eight times. I expect him to better those stats this week as he goes against a ridiculously bad Arizona Cardinal pass defense.

Cam Newton had receivers running wide open all over the field against the Cardinals in his record-setting debut. The Cardinals will have no answer for Moss.

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Hines Ward

The Steelers are in desperate need of a big rebound game this week. They should get this rebound against the Seahawks.

Steeler receiver Mike Wallace is a definite start for this one, but I don't consider Wallace a fringe player. Hines Ward is, and he is worthy of starting in this one.

Ward had five catches for 67 yards against the Ravens and was targeted nine times. He is going to find life much easier going against a weak Seahawk secondary.

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford

Matthew Stafford had a solid opener, and had all the looks of someone that is going to warrant permanent starter status in fantasy leagues.

Stafford was 24-for-33 with 305 yards, three TDs and one INT against the Bucs, and he is facing a Kansas City Chiefs defense that was shockingly inept in Week 1. To add to the Chiefs woes, they lost safety Eric Berry for the season.

The Chiefs gave up three passing TDs in Week 1, and could easily give up as many or more in this one.
