2011 Fantasy Football Week 2: Wide Receivers (WR) Rankings and Projections

Sean E. DouglasSep 12, 2011

This could be the start of a career year for Calvin Johnson as he started off with a bang against the Buccaneers with two touchdowns on the road. As long as Matthew Stafford is on the field for a full season, it wouldn’t shock me if Johnson made a run for twenty touchdowns this year. Look for Megatron to have another stellar performance against a Chiefs defense that will be without star safety Eric Berry, who is done for the year.

 Dez Bryant @ 49ers

Before Dez Bryant started having cramping problems in the second half, he was having a breakout game on Sunday night against the Jets. Bryant is a physical beast, and it looks like he’s ready to be a top ten fantasy receiver this year. While I wasn’t in love with fantasy owners taking him as high as the third round this summer, it looks like they will get a solid return on their high investment, and Bryant should have another good day against a weak 49ers secondary.

Dwayne Bowe Vs. Lions

Thankfully, Dwayne Bowe gets to face the Lions secondary this week, but he will probably have to earn his points in garbage time. The Lions will jump out to a big lead early to let their defense play in attack mode throughout the second half. If Matt Cassel makes it out alive, it will be a plus for the Chiefs, but this early going may be a bumpy ride for Bowe owners.

Reggie Wayne Vs. Browns

It wasn’t a pleasant site to watch the Colts against the Texans in Week 1, but Reggie Wayne had a good end to the game as he finished with 107 yards and a touchdown. This is going to be a long year for the Colts, but Wayne is still worth starting regularly.

Kenny Britt Vs. Ravens

I’ve never questioned Kenny Britt’s talent but more his off the field problems and hamstring issues, which are the main reasons why he’s not a top twenty receiver. Week 1, Britt proved his hamstring is good as he went for over 100 yards and two touchdowns. While the Ravens are coming in Week 2, you should still look to Britt as a weekly starter as long as he’s healthy.

Plaxico Burress Vs. Jaguars

While it took Mark Sanchez until the second half against the Cowboys to find Burress, it seemed like he was going to him more and more as the game went on. Sanchez is going to like having Burress as a big target, and he should have another solid performance against a sorry Jaguars secondary.

Notable Injuries

Lance Moore (Groin), Hakeem Nicks (Knee)
