WWE: CM Punk's Attitude Is Keeping the WWE Alive
The WWE was going nowhere fast when they allowed CM Punk to use his contract dispute while he was doing one of his shoot promos.
That promo has given birth to a wrestling revolution with CM Punk at the helm.
Since his rise to main-stream fame, Punk has become one of the faces of the WWE, and what he says really matters now.
When he wants change, he can threaten to take his millions of dedicated followers wherever he wants to take them and force the WWEโs hand every time.
Thatโs why the fans love him, and he has become the voice of the fans who want the kind of wrestling they grew up with back.
CM Punk told the Ottawa Sun before Mondayโs Raw:
"I canโt believe I have to step over people to get their attention. They have an antiquated way of seeing things. Iโm trying to save this business. When I talk, my design is to piss somebody off. Iโm not just saying, โyouโre bald,โ or โyouโre ugly.โ Doing this is ingrained in my DNA. Itโs 100 percent mine, all me. Half of the stuff I know off the top of my head, the other half I come up with when Iโm out there. The best stuff is always the kneejerk reaction. It helps when you get somebody great to work with. I donโt know if itโs something you can teach. (As a kid) I didnโt walk around with a pretend plastic microphone, but I was never afraid of talking back. I used to get the crap beat out of me. But people would tire out from punching me in the face before I would stop talking back.
"
While this story is hilarious and not far-fetched at all, the point that Punkโs willingness to risk his career to further it is why the people love him.
How many people want to tell their boss to take a hike? I bet most of them do, but they never will because they donโt want to lose their job.
The WWE fans live vicariously through Punk, and when he stands up to Triple H as a boss, he really does become the voice of the voiceless. As long as the WWE keeps having CM Punk fight whoever the main authority figure is, there will always be a significant place in the WWE for him.
Wrestling was dying until CM Punk saved the business, but letโs see how long it is before he turns corporate like all the rest.
