Ron Artest: Lack of Discipline, Sanity Will Keep Him from DWTS Glory

On the surface, Ron Artest would seem to be a natural fit on Dancing With the Stars. He makes a living playing basketball, a game that requires timing, rhythm and balance in order to be successful. But his problems on the court, specifically his almost schizophrenic behavior, will ultimately be his undoing on the show.

Artest, or Metta World Peace as he prefers to be called, has shown in the past that he has the talent to be one of the best basketball players in the world. He can be a lock-down defender and his shot, while it has never been great, has been effective at times.

But as talented as Artest is, he gets lost on the court because he can't focus for 48 minutes at a time. His inability to focus on the court will prove to be his undoing on DWTS.

He will have to maintain focus long enough to learn his dance routine. If he is able to do that, he will have to remain focused in front of the studio audience and remember everything he has learned. There is a lot focus and attention to detail involved that Artest has not proven he is capable of handling.

Plus, you have to take into account the fact that Artest is nuts.

He can start a routine and look like the best dancer in the world, but at some point he is going to forget what he is doing, or get bored with what he is doing, and either stop dancing and walk off the court or not show up to rehearsals one day.

I do think he will make it through the first few rounds because he is entertaining on the microphone, and fans will vote for him just to keep his personality on television.

But at some point he is going to get lost on the dance floor and the fans will have no choice but to vote him off the show. Of course, you don't actually have to have dancing ability to make it on this show.

We want to tune in to see what he is going to do or say, not to actually watch him dance. Even if Artest proves he is a capable dancer, which is entirely possible, there is going to come a time when his unstable nature ruins his chances of winning.
