Fantasy Football Week 2 Projections: 3 Week 1 Studs to Avoid

Joseph HealyJun 6, 2018

Just like after preseason games, we tend to have a tendency to overreact to players that have hot starts to the season.

While a big first fantasy week can mean that the player in question is ready for a breakout year, it can also just mean that he had a good week. It's important to be careful when hitching your wagon to a player that had a big first week.

The following are three players you will want to avoid, as they may very well end up being one-week wonders.

Ben Tate, Houston Texans

Thanks to an injury that kept Arian Foster out of the lineup and an injury sustained during the game to backup running back Derrick Ward, Tate was thrust into the spotlight.

Tate responded by rushing for 116 yards, but I wouldn't expect that to be the new norm. While Ward's injury turned out to be significant enough that he will miss time, Foster will be back at some point.

Tate is a nice stopgap running back, but nothing more.

49ers Defense

The 49ers defense was one of the top scorers at any position in Week 1, but it can't last. They capitalized on a Seahawks offense that leaves a lot to be desired, but they won't face offenses that weak every week.

Even if they are unclaimed in your league right now, stay away from them. They lack play makers on that side of the ball, and at some point, they will get lit up.

To top things off, the 49ers offense isn't good enough to keep their defense off the field to get them the rest they need.

Rex Grossman, Washington Redskins

Grossman was a surprising boon for any fantasy owner stuck with him. Not only did he stay away from turning the ball over, but he actually went out and made plays.

Grossman completed 21 of 34 passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns. All of those numbers are better than you can expect from here on out.

If you already have Grossman on your roster, it likely means that you don't have a lot of choice. If you were considering picking him up coming off his solid Week 1 performance, don't.
