Novak Djokovic, US Open Tennis 2011: World No. 1 Will Fall to Rafael Nadal

Andrew KulhaJun 3, 2018

Rafael Nadal squaring up against Novak Djokovic in the 2011 U.S. Open menโ€™s final may possibly be one of the most epic tennis matches of all time.

This is the matchup all of us have been waiting to see in the 2011 US Open right?

Of course it is, that shouldnโ€™t even be a legitimate question.

Theyโ€™ve matched up before, had some intense showdowns and have formed somewhat of a rivalry.

Weโ€™ve seen it, weโ€™ve lived it and weโ€™ve loved it, so what makes this one so much different than the others?

Simply put, the storyline is magnificent.

Djokovic has been the undisputed No. 1 in 2011, but he had to go through Nadal to get the title.

There is no doubting he is the best player in the world, but that doesnโ€™t mean Nadal canโ€™t take it back from him.

Are we that quick to forget how Nadal stole the crown from Roger Federer, and all those epic matches and battles that took place between the two?

Essentially we are seeing that play out again, but with a new champion contending for tennisโ€™ top spot.

This is enthralling must-see television!

How will it play out though?

Iโ€™m assuming thatโ€™s why you are reading on, because you want to know what I think.

Iโ€™m not sure you can handle what I think though.

Djokovic is the favorite, but letโ€™s not forget that Nadal is the defending champ. Yes, he has had horrendous struggles against Djokovic, and yes Djokovic is having arguably one of the best years we have ever seen.

I know that all the odds are stacked up against Nadal, but I simply canโ€™t count him out.

Heโ€™s struggled during this tournament, but time after time he finds a way to win.

Thatโ€™s what makes Nadal so good! He has tremendous skill, but he also has a strong desire and will-power to win.

I think that will be the deciding factor in this match.

We have seen Djokovic struggle with fatigue as of late, so I expect Nadal will have him running around the court in an effort to tire him out.

When all is said and done, I think Nadalโ€™s will and experience will propel him over Djokovic.

Both are worthy competitors and there is no doubt that both our worthy champions, but I think world No. 1 Novak Djokovic will finally fall at the hands of Rafael Nadal.
