Sam Bradford Injury: Will Finger Injury Plague Bradford All Year Long?

Alex KaySep 11, 2011

Sam Bradford is on the verge of becoming a star in the National Football League. He had a great rookie campaign and was looked upon by many to make the leap to becoming a legitimate star signal caller in the league.

However, he may have had a set back when he injured his index finger against the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth quarter of the two teams' Week 1 matchup.

The Miami Herald wrote of it,

“With about eight minutes to play, Bradford completed a 31-yard pass to Brandon Gibson. But as the completion was being challenged, he walked into the locker room looking at his right hand. He was getting an X-ray on a finger”

The Rams later stated that the X-rays were negative and Bradford is going to play next Monday night. He stated so himself during a postgame interview

“I don’t see there being any way I’m not going to be on the field next Monday night.”

The team is going to need him back for their marquee matchup against the New York Giants. He may have nerve damage and they described the injury as a “stinger”.

If Bradford is dealing with this injury throughout the season, it could spell certain doom for the Rams and their fans. It could potentially mess with his release, as it is his index finger on his throwing hand. It also has a high chance to be re-injured during a game.

Bradford had a solid but unspectacular game before leaving for good in the fourth quarter. He went 17-30 for 188 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions. The Rams were greatly affected by the loss of Steven Jackson to a strained quadriceps after his monster touchdown run. The offense shifted towards the passing game and the strong Eagles’ secondary clamped down.

If Bradford needs to get surgery on his finger at some point this year the team will be certainly done. They cannot afford to have their star QB miss any time and it would be terrible for their chances to win the wide-open NFC West.
