NFL Scores Week 1: Final Score and Analysis of Bills' Stunning Win over Chiefs

Andrew KulhaJun 7, 2018

If anybody tells you that they predicted the Buffalo Bills going to Arrowhead stadium and absolutely trouncing the Kansas City Chiefs, they are either a genius or a huge liar.

It would have been plausible to see the Bills playing a close game and possibly pulling something out at the end, but such a lopsided victory?

This was an absolutely stunning win by the Bills.

Perhaps the Chiefs aren’t as good as we thought they could be, or maybe the Bills are just a lot better than any of us expected.

Final Score:   Buffalo Bills: 41    Kansas City Chiefs: 7

Game Recap

All in all, this was just a horrible game for the Kansas City Chiefs. They started right off the bat making fundamental and mental mistakes, and the Bills were all over them by the time they realized they were in a game.

Coming into the season the running game was supposed to be a huge part of the Chiefs offense, but Jamaal Charles couldn’t get anything going and finished the game with 10 carries for just 56 yards.

Frankly, nothing was working for the Chiefs offense. Quarterback Matt Cassel could never get into a rhythm and finished 22-of-36 for 119 yards and just one touchdown.

Credit to where it is due though, the Bills came out and absolutely dominated this game.

Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick had a great afternoon, going 17-of-26 for 208 yards and four touchdowns. The running game came through as well for the Bills. Fred Jackson finished the day with 112 yards on 20 carries.

Overall, you could call this a huge letdown by the Chiefs, but the Bills were clearly the better team and deserve the win.

Player That Emerged

Even though he’s been around for a while, I have to give the nod to Fitzpatrick here. Nobody has been giving the Bills offense any credit, yet when the chips were down and the games count for real, he came out and put four touchdowns on the board for the Bills.

Injury News

  • Bills cornerback Terrence McGee left game in the first quarter with a hamstring injury.
  • Chiefs safety Eric Berry left the game twice in the first quarter with a knee injury. Linebacker Shawne Merriman went to the locker room to get his shoulder worked on, but returned to the game.

What’s Ahead For Bills

Buffalo has a very tough matchup against the Oakland Raiders next at home. If their offense can keep it up, it should be a very winnable game for the Bills.

What’s Ahead For Chiefs

Kansas City has an integral matchup at Detroit next week. The Lions knocked off the Buccaneers on the road and will be hungry to prove their legitimacy against the Chiefs. This will be an intense game that is an early season must win.
