Jason Witten: New Contract Ensures Tony Romo Bromance with Witten Still Intact
Jason Witten is Mr. Dependable for the Dallas Cowboys. Through the ups and downs in Big "D", Witten has remained a surefire outlet for franchise quarterback and best buddy Tony Romo.
That's why it came as no surprise to see Witten inked to a big $37 million extension to kick off the 2011 season. While Romo was out with a shoulder injury, Witten didn't put up the numbers he was accustomed to.
He's sure to rebound from a lackluster, shortened 347-yard season. The Cowboys don't need to be concerned about the decline, as Witten is sure to bounce back with Romo back under center.

Witten serves as the ultimate check down in Dallas. Dez Bryant and Miles Austin are great targets for Dallas, but there is no question who Romo's favorite target is.
In 2009, Witten had 980 yards. Expect Witten to put up another monster season as teams gear up against the talented receiving corp the Cowboys are putting forth.
Witten is a Jason Garrett kind of guy. He's going to come to work every day ready to put out his best effort, a quality not all of his 2010 teammates seemed to possess. A healthy Romo to Witten connection is going to set the tone offensively.
Jon Kitna never fully utilized having Witten on the field. Romo knows how valuable Witten can be and sees him as the valuable target he is. With Romo out of his sling, we can expect Witten's stats to return to their former state.
Austin and Bryant are sure to have a big season, but Romo is sure to call upon Witten in the clutch. He's a red-zone nightmare and his sure hands make his huge contract a no-risk investment.
The Cowboys have the talent to win. Now it's a matter of instilling the culture change necessary to take the team to the next level. Hiring Garrett was a great move and having players like Witten to set the tone in the locker room makes their ascension in the NFC East even more likely.
Jerry Jones can feel comfortable writing a big check to Witten, as he shows up every Sunday regardless of what is going on around him.
Locking up Witten for five years locks up the Romo/Witten bromance for another half decade, but it also lets the team know what it takes to score a monster payday.
The Cowboys would benefit from taking on Witten's blue collar persona. If the team would have followed Witten's hard-working lead they could have saved themselves from a 6-10 fate.
This is a great extension to kick off the 2011 NFL season. The team rewards a great player who has produced for the franchise year in and year out since he arrived in 2003 and Jones has undoubtedly made Romo the happiest player in the Cowboys locker room.
There was never a doubt that Witten would ink a contract, but the manner in which the Cowboys did it couldn't have been more perfect. Witten is the epitome of what the Cowboys are looking for. There is no player more deserving and it's great to see Witten's efforts recognized.
