10 Craziest Fighters in the UFC Today
In every major sport there are a handful of guys who are just down right crazy. The UFC is no different.
Every fan, for some reason or another, loves the guys who set themselves apart from the restโwho are anything but normal.
Whether it's their appearance, the things they say or the way they act, something about them tells us they aren't your average scholar.
And, even though they may be crazy, they are ultimately good for the sport. They help promote it and, more importantly, they attract the eyes of fans.
The following slides display the 10 craziest fighters in the UFC today.
Let's take a look...
Honorable Mention: Tito Ortiz
1 of 11Tito Ortiz: yeah, I'd say he's pretty crazy. Especially if he's hanging with the guy above.
On a more serious note, Ortiz isn't right in the head.
According to TMZ.com, Ortiz did some time in jail after he allegedly beat up Jenna Jameson over an argument at their home in 2010. At least that's what they arrested him for (felony domestic violence).
10. Dan Hardy
2 of 11I'd say it's a safe bet to say Dan Hardy is a little off in the head. Maybe that's an understatement.
Just take a look at this guy. He went from a pretty good fighter to losing four in a row. But, the fans still love him, because he's crazy.
If you need a little more assurance, just visit his website and you'll understand. Let's not forget the appearance aspect of this either.
9. Chael Sonnen
3 of 11I don't know if it's from getting hit too many times, but Chael Sonnen is crazy.
It's not necessarily his actions that make him come across insane, it's more the things he says. Some people think this guy is a psychopath, while others think he's just trying to sell his name.
The things Sonnen says are way off from the normal human being.
After Anderson Silva's victory at UFC 134, Sonnen tweeted, "We call Andy 'champ' like we call developmentally disabled animals 'champ.' Good boy, Andy, good boy!"
What does that even mean? Craziness.
8. Brock Lesnar
4 of 11Brock Lesnar isn't your average human being. He's a little different, a little crazy to say the least.
In 2001, MMA News reported that Lesnar was once mistakenly arrested for possession of steroids. Mistakenly?
We can all recall Lesnar flipping the bird to his fans and bashing his own sponsor, Bud Light, at UFC 100.
To top it off, he was in the WWE. He should have spent a little less time hanging out with Vince McMahon.
7. Wanderlei Silva
5 of 11Wanderlei Silva's nickname is pretty self explanatory: "The Axe Murderer."
The last thing I would want to do is put an axe in the hands of this man. He even admits he's crazy, and when someone disrespects him he says he turns to a "whole new crazy."
Everything about this guy screams "Stay away!"
At least there's a referee to stop this guy in the Octagon. Imagine coming across this guy on a bad day.
6. Rampage Jackson
6 of 11I don't think there will be too many people arguing with this one.
According to ESPN.com, Rampage was sent to an "area hospital for mental evaluation" in July of 2008. He was considered to be a danger himself and others. The article went on to state an incident in which he took police on a three-mile automobile chase.
Once you throw in the Octagon aspect, it takes his craziness to a whole new level.
Who howls like a wolf anyway?
5. Clay Guida
7 of 11Clay Guida isn't exactly the guy every parent wants their daughter to bring home on a first date.
The guy is nuts. All you have to do is look at him. After you do that, go watch him fight. He runs around the ring like a mad man looking to spear his opponent every two seconds.
At one point in his UFC career he actually stated that he likes to get hit. And, that it sends an adrenaline rush through him. Really?
His appearance is just a bonus.
4. Diego Sanchez
8 of 11Diego Sanchez made one of the biggest mistakes in his mixed martial arts career after a defeat to B.J. Penn at UFC 107
Instead of being content with his pay he decided to turn to partying, alcohol, and smoking marijuana.
And, according to MMA Weekly, Sanchez trusted a "close friend" to handle the money he had made. It turns out Sanchez was embezzled over for $170,000. It was gone. All of it.
His nickname, the "Nightmare," hit the nail right on the head. This guy is an absolute terror inside and outside of the Octagon.
3. Nick Diaz
9 of 11Nick Diaz just solidified himself and reassured us of just how crazy he is when he got the cut from a title fight against Georges St-Pierre.
Something is not right upstairs for Diaz. He was about to get the biggest payday of his mixed martial arts career, and just didn't show up. In a sense, he threw away a couple hundred thousand dollars.
Diaz has pretty much done it all. MMA Weekly reported that after arguably the biggest win of Diaz's career against Takanori Gomi at Pride 33, he failed a drug test.
The list of stories for Diaz goes on, and on, and on.
2. Chris Leben
10 of 11Chris Leben is not only one of the craziest fighters in the UFC, but probably the world.
Leben is most popular for entering the octagon and going postal on his opponent. If you've seen him fight in the Octagon you'll know he swings a mile a minute.
At one point in his career he was quoted as saying he enjoys getting punched in the face. He went on to say that it turns a light switch on in his head that motivates him to keep going.
If that's not enough to convince you, USA Today published an article of Leben's arrest of DUI.
If you're still not satisfied, just take a look at him or watch his pre and post press-conference interviews.
1. Jason "Mayhem" Miller
11 of 11Jason "Mayhem" Miller is the definition of crazy. At first glance he may come across as harmless, but don't be fooled.
Miller is recently famous for assaulting his sister. According to MMAfighting.com, Miller allegedly put her in a headlock and wouldn't let go. After she escaped she was able to call the police and have him arrested.
He was charged with simple assault. Did his sister not tap out? His nickname "Mayhem," which means violent or damaging disorder, fits him well.
If you really don't think this guy is crazy just watch his UFC entrances. A little bizarre to say the least.
