College Football Rankings Week 2: Which Pac-12 Team Will Climb the Most?

Kyle VassaloJun 7, 2018

The Pac-12 took some serious hits in the rankings last week, but not to worry. Week 2 gives several teams in the conference an opportunity to shoot up the rankings once again.

There were teams who plummeted last week and even teams who slipped out of the rankings entirely, but Arizona State kicked off the weekend with a huge win on Friday that will set the scene for more teams in the conference to do the same.

Here are the Pac-12 teams who will climb the most after Week 2.

Arizona State

All right, this isn't exactly a bold prediction, but the Sun Devils are bound to crack the top 25 after taking down No. 21 Missouri in an overtime thriller on Friday. Brock Osweiler really came into his own and the Sun Devils look like they might compete not only in the PAC-12, but on a national scene.

The Sun Devils were snubbed in the preseason rankings and a blowout win over UC Davis didn't exactly impress voters after Week 1. The Sun Devils wanted to show voters this week that they deserve some recognition. Message sent.

USC

USC barely escaped the Golden Gophers at home last week. That's a huge red flag that forced them out of the rankings after starting off the season at No. 25. Matt Barkley was flawless last week, which is a great sign for the Trojans, but problematic because they barely won in spite of his success.

The rest of the team is going to have to catch up with Barkley this week when they take on Utah. They have more than two good guys, contrary to what Lane Kiffin may have thought after Week 1. This is an offense with two guys who could easily be top five picks in next year's draft. They'll turn it on this week and win over the voters again.

No. 13 Oregon

Oregon got blown out in their opener against LSU. They lost to an elite SEC team and the beating hurt. It was awful, but Oregon had to know it was a possibility. The Ducks need to shake it off. One loss against a great team doesn't end their season or even eliminate their National Championship hopes.

They got knocked all the way down to No. 13 after their huge loss, but easy go easy come, or something like that. They get a chance to get a big win today over Nevada and establish themselves as the best 1-loss team in college football.
