Fantasy Football Week 1: 3 Quarterbacks to Think Twice About Starting in Week 1

Gabe ZaldivarSep 9, 2011

There you sit, content with the fantasy football decisions you just made.

Well, you may want to consider your lineup if you have one of these quarterbacks as your starter. They may just ruin a perfectly good fantasy week.

These are sound quarterbacks that are heading into horrendous mismatches in Week 1. You would normally feel safe in letting them start, which is why I now fear for the sanctity of your fantasy teams.

There is no such thing as a "start 'em and leave 'em" for a season. Unless you have Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers, there are going to be times to switch it up.

That time is ripe for the following three quarterbacks. Practice safe fantasy football, and take these guys off your starting lineup.

1. Joe Flacco vs. Steelers

Flacco may be a great quarterback. He may even be considered elite, by others...not me. He has great difficulty being either against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Last year, he commanded just two touchdowns while still throwing a pick in two games. These two clubs tend to ground-and-pound us all to boredom. This is not the game that will yield your terrific returns in fantasy points.

You can still wear your Flacco jersey, just don't start the dude.

2. Sam Bradford vs. Eagles

I am confident that the Rams will have a much better showing against the Eagles than most people think. They will do it behind great defense and Steven Jackson.

Sam Bradford will have some tremendous games in 2011. Week 1 will not be one of them. The Eagles have an awesome secondary that will render Bradford human on Sunday.

3. Josh Freeman vs. Detroit Lions

I love me some Josh Freeman. He was just what I needed to boost me in some games last year.

This is not his sort of ballgame, though. The Lions will give the Buccaneers offensive line fits all game. Ndamukong Suh and Kyle Vanden Bosch will be breathing down Freeman's neck far too many times for him to be productive.
