The Worst Film Cameos by NFL Players So Far

Bryn SwartzSep 8, 2011

One of the coolest things is when an NFL player makes an appearance in a movie. You know, like Michael Irvin in The Longest Yard, or Emmitt Smith in Little Giants.

But there are a number of football players who have made cameos in movies and, well, they probably shouldn't have.

The following six slides highlight the worst film cameos by NFL players in history.

Dan Marino in Ace Ventura

1 of 6

There's something about Dan Marino being in Ace Ventura that makes me uncomfortable.

Maybe it's just the fact that he isn't a good actor and he's completely overshadowed by Jim Carrey, one of the top actors of our generation.

Marino threw 420 touchdowns and retired as the NFL's all-time leader in attempts, completions, passing yards and touchdowns. He should have just stuck to football.

Lawrence Taylor, Lynn Swann & Dan Fouts in the Waterboy

2 of 6

The Waterboy is one of Adam Sandler's top grossing movies, earning over $100 million.

Appearing in the movie were a number of former NFL players including Lawrence Taylor, Lynn Swann and Dan Fouts.

All three were Hall of Fame football players—and LT is one of the greatest linebackers in NFL history—but acting wasn't their calling.

Terry Bradshaw in Failure to Launch

3 of 6

Failure to Launch is a pretty good movie. It has Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew McConaughey and it's a pretty entertaining comedy.

I just don't know why Terry Bradshaw had to play the role of the father. He doesn't have acting experience, and who really wanted to see his bare butt later in the movie?

No, thank you. No, thank you at all.

Brett Favre in There's Something About Mary

4 of 6

Brett Favre is always in the spotlight. Always. I didn't even know that he has made an appearance in a movie, but supposedly he was in There's Something About Mary.

I've never seen the movie, but I read that he was very monotone and is a terrible actor. He also got turned down for a marriage proposal.

Doesn't surprise me.

Bill Romanowski in the Longest Yard

5 of 6

I loved the 2005 version on The Longest Yard (although I can't compare it to the earlier movie because I've never seen that one).

However, I wasn't a fan of Bill Romanowski as one of the prison guards. I thought he was too extreme and too "steroided up." In fact, all of the guards seemed that way.

Great movie, but a little too extreme at times.

Carl Weathers in Happy Gilmore

6 of 6

I thought that Happy Gilmore was good, but not a great movie.

I wasn't a fan of Adam Sandler's golfing coach or the whole "missing hand" that was bitten off by the alligator, which is the role played by former NFL player Carl Weathers.

It was typically a little too extreme, but hey, that's how every Adam Sandler movie is.
