Matt Hughes Sad UFC 135 Fight Is Not Against Diego Sanchez
Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes recently posted a blog on his Web site concerning his upcoming bout with Josh Koscheck. His original opponent, Diego Sanchez, was forced to pull out due to an injury suffered in training.
""As most of you know, Diego hurt his hand and is now out of the fight. I was sad to hear that, I was looking forward to going up against another Christian and thought that I could just let the fight go in God’s hands. Dana called me yesterday and told me the bad news, and said that Koscheck or Fitch would most likely be replacing Diego. I said 'yes' to either fighter and then here about a half hour ago, DW called me and told me it was going to be Koscheck."
"
Hughes hasn't fought since his loss to B.J. Penn. The UFC Hall-of-Famer was knocked out in just 23 seconds. A three-fight win streak preceded that fight, including victories over Ricardo Almeida, Renzo Gracie and Matt Serra.
Koscheck is also coming off a loss to current UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. The former NCAA Division I wrestler suffered a broken orbital bone in the bout and has been recovering since December.
Hughes vs. Koscheck is scheduled as a co-main event bout behind a UFC light heavyweight championship fight versus Jon Jones and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. Jones won the title in March after defeating Mauricio "Shogun" Rua.
Other main card bouts include Takanori Gomi vs. Nate Diaz, Travis Browne vs. Rob Broughton and Ben Rothwell vs. Mark Hunt.
