US Open Tennis 2011: Thursday Schedule, Preview and TV Coverage

Carlos TorresSep 8, 2011

The rain has washed out all matches at the US Open for the past two days.

Tuesday, for the first time in history, the US Open was suspended for a full day. After the suspension of play yesterday, all matches are now scheduled for today.

The top players in the world were not happy about that, and quickly joined forces yesterday.

Rafael Nadal was the vocal leader of the main players' criticism yesterday of the US Open organizers, saying that player safety is being put at serious risk in a desperate effort to recover the time lost due to rain.

Nadal, the No. 2 player in the world and defending champion, Andy Murray, No. 4 in the world, and  Andy Roddick, the tournament's 2003 champion, filed a complaint with the tournament referee, Brian Earley.

This happened shortly after being forced to play on slightly-wet courts—the result of heavy rains over the tennis complex at Flushing Meadows.

The battery of games on Wednesday, which began with a 90-minute delay, was suspended just 15 minutes into the matches, after another heavy rain began to fall at Flushing Meadows.

There are four men's fourth-round matches still to be completed, while the first two quarterfinals will also start today.

The scheduling is a definite disadvantage to the players that still have to play the fourth round, with regards to the players' recovery time before their next match.

All women's singles quarterfinal matches are scheduled for today. Here is the singles schedule of play for today:
