Terrell Owens: 5 Teams That Would Be a Good Fit for the Star WR
With the NFL season only a few days away there are still players that are searching for a new team, but none bigger than wide receiver Terrell Owens. While Owens may not be a good fit for some teams, there are a handful of teams that Owens could instantly upgrade.
Like him or not, Owens has been one of the premier receivers over the past decade or so and is one of the best receivers of all time. Owens is tied for second all-time with Randy Moss at 153 receiving touchdowns and trails only Jerry Rice's 197.
The problem with Owens is that he constantly can find a way to create distractions on and off the field. For a while it will appear like Owens and his quarterback have a great relationship, and then out of nowhere he will throw him under the bus.
Owens is a diva wide receiver at its finest, but there is no arguing that the guy is a good receiver. He proved this with his 72 reception and just under 1,000-yard receiving year. Here are five teams that would benefit from signing the embattled receiver:
5. Oakland Raiders
1 of 5For a guy that loves all the drama and spotlight, Oakland would be a perfect destination for Terrell Owens.
The Raiders are a team that could have an explosive offense with the addition of Owens. The Raiders have a franchise tailback in Darren McFadden and great young receivers in Louis Murphy, Darrius Heyward-Bey and Jacoby Ford.
Heyward-Bey struggled in his rookie season, but playing behind a proven veteran like T.O. could help him become a star. He has all of the athletic ability to be a star receiver and guidance from Owens could go a long way.
Looking at this year specifically, if you combine the quality route running and catching of Owens, with the stud receiver in the making in Murphy and the big play potential of Ford and the Raiders would have a scary receiving core.
4. Detroit Lions
2 of 5Imagine a team that lines up Calvin Johnson on one side of the field and Terrell Owens on the other side. Scary, right?
This is supposed to be the year that the Lions finally break out, and the addition of Terrell Owens could make that happen. The Lions know that they are going to have a dominant defense, fueled by their defensive line, and the more weapons they add on the defense, the scarier their team will be in general.
The Lions have one of the best receivers in football in Johnson, but he could use a running mate. They do have Nate Burleson, but the addition of Owens would make their receiving core complete. Combine the big play potential of Johnson with the big play potential of Owens and they will be very tough to guard.
If Matthew Stafford finds a way to stay healthy for a season, I'm sure he wouldn't mind having more options to throw to.
3. Chicago Bears
3 of 5A team that has never been able to find a go-to receiver is the Chicago Bears. The Bears haven't had a 1,000-yard receiver since Marty Booker and are in great need of one.
With a questionable offensive line, the Bears need as quality of receivers as they can get because they need precise routes and sure hands if Jay Cutler and the Bears offense wants to be successful.
The Bears went out and signed Roy Williams this offseason, but after a poor preseason it is looking like he may not be the answer to the Bears problems. While it is early and Williams could become a great receiver for the Bears, it wouldn't hurt to bring in Owens.
The combination of Devin Hester, Johnny Knox and Earl Bennett gives the Bears a lot of speed, but they also lack in size. Owens could be the big receiver that the Bears need if Roy Williams does not work out.
When Jay Cutler was teamed up with Brandon Marshall in Denver he showed the damage that he could do with a big receiver, so I'm sure that he would be all in for an Owens acquisition.
2. St. Louis Rams
4 of 5Sam Bradford is one of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL and surrounding him with as many weapons as possible is exactly what the Rams front office needs to do.
The Rams went out and got Mike Sims-Walker this offseason, but the question is to whether they did enough to make the Rams a threat in the NFC. The Rams do have a solid young receiver in Danny Amendola, who is a great slot receiver with his 85 receptions a season ago.
The combination of Sims-Walker, Amendola, and Owens would give the Rams a better receiving core, but more importantly a complete receiving core. With Sam Bradford entering his second season in the NFL, good, quality receivers can turn him into one of the premier quarterbacks in the league very soon.
1. Kansas City Chiefs
5 of 5A season ago, the Kansas City Chiefs were one of the pleasant surprises in the league as they went 10-6 and made the AFC Playoffs. The Chiefs had one of the best rushing attacks in all of football, but the same cannot be said for their receiving corps.
The Chiefs have an absolute stud receiver in Dwayne Bowe, but outside of that they really have nothing. Their second best receiver from last season was tight end Tony Moeaki, who is out for the season with a torn ACL. Outside of Bowe, Chris Chambers lead the rest of the wide receivers with a pathetic 22 catches.
The Chiefs went out and got Steve Breaston this offseason, but an addition of Owens would give them an incredibly dynamic receiving core. Being able to both run the ball and pass the ball effectively is something that not many teams can say they can do, but the addition of Owens could certainly give the Chiefs that.
