Lesnar vs. Overeem: Lesnar's Trainer Discusses Bout, Says, "He Wants That Belt"
Upon learning about Brock Lesnar's return to the UFC, his Brazilian jiu-jitsu trainer coach, Rodrigo Medeiros, is confident Lesnar will return to form and compete at a high level. Lesnar is expected to face Alistair Overeem Dec. 30.
Medeiros spoke to TATAME.com, discussing Lesnar's progression in BJJ and how he expects to see Lesnar make more adjustments ahead of his upcoming bout.
"You’ll see Brock fighting in high level again,” Medeiros said.
"I don’t know about his agenda yet, but I’ll start working with him soon. He’s in great hands for his technical and cardio trainings."
The announcement regarding Lesnar's bout will see the former champion return following a year's absence with diverticulitis. The matchup has already generated a lot of interest from fans and critics alike, and it is expected the winner will receive a heavyweight title shot.
A bout against Overeem should be all that Lesnar needs to reenter himself back into the title picture. His current resume of former champions certainly heightens his chances, and a win against Overeem will likely solidify him as a contender once again.
Medeiros said it is his consistency and motivation that allow him to continue pursuing his goal of regaining the heavyweight crown, an accomplishment he had achieved not too long ago. Although Lesnar will be entering only his eighth professional bout, it doesn't change his mentality of becoming champion.
"He made it clear he wants to become Ultimate’s champion again, he wants that belt," he said.
