Donovan McNabb Rant and Week 11 Picks

First, I need to do a brief rant about Donovan McNabb.

McNabb, of course now infamously, said he was not aware an NFL game could end in a tie, and offered as an excuse that it doesn't happen at any other level of competition for the game. Other players have offered that a significant number or even a majority of players were also unaware.

This might be an acceptable argument for a player who has not been in the league for more than a couple years, or maybe even one who joined in 2003, after the last tie. For a player in his 10th year, there is no excuse for this level of ignorance.

How can you not know there are ties in the NFL? Did you not grow up watching the game? More importantly, were you not paying attention to the three that happened while you were a player in the league?

And don't give me that there are no ties at any other level. College football only started having overtime in 1996. This means that while you were a senior in high school in Chicago, your home state Fighting Illini and Big Ten rivals Michigan State, Purdue, and Wisconsin all had ties within the conference; Wisconsin had two ties that season, including a non-conference game.

Then, you have the gall to say, "I'd hate to see what happens in the playoffs..." Are you freakin' kidding me?!!! You actually aren't aware that the rules are different in the playoffs? You are totally unaware of the "Greatest Game Ever Played," between the New York Giants and Baltimore Colts?

So basically, you did not pay attention in high school, you have no respect for the game's history, and you don't pay attention to what's happening in the rest of the league during your career. Maybe I need to rethink whether you are to blame for the Eagles not getting over the hump.

Anyone who did not know should lose their right to play the game. I am not kidding: It is an insult to me as a fan that you have that little concern for your vocation. Especially if you don't know after all the press coverage...
