US Open Tennis 2011: Rain Suspends Big Day of Play, Nadal Down

Jeff ChaseJun 7, 2018

Another day at the US Open, another day of rain.

The Grand Slam has been hit by rain two days in a row, suspending play of some pretty big matches. Two of the big four are in play, including matches with American Andy Roddick and young up-and-comer Donald Young.

In the most progressed match so far, Roddick has taken a quick 3-1 game lead in the first set against David Ferrer, propelling the American into the direction he has taken the entire tournament. Roddick is certainly quieting his critics with his current play. He can only hope to keep the play up when the match resumes.

Young and world No. 4 Andy Murray are at 1-2 in the first set with Young up and on serve. This match is looking to be close in the beginning, and many can only hope the young American can keep the play up and possibly create a huge upset. This will be the match to keep close attention to. Murray is known to choke, but could he choke this early to a hyped-up young American?

In a surprise to most, No. 2 Rafael Nadal is down 0-3 in the first set to Giles Muller. Nadal is only down a break, but its also early in the match so need to panic. After collapsing in his last press conference, people have been wondering if Nadal is OK for the rest of the tournament, so look for him to answer those in question with solid play. The rain certainly helps Nadal, as he can recoup and get in a little more rest.

Nadal can turn it on at any moment, so we will have to see if the freak of nature will be able to come back and take over this quarterfinal match up.

Today's play has been suspended, but Muller and Young pose a threat to take out two of the big four. We will have to see what happens, but things could look different in this Grand Slam semifinals.
