NFL Week 1 Odds: 3 Teams Getting No Respect From Oddsmakers

Eric BallSep 6, 2011

Usually Vegas is on the money.

They are always within a few points of hitting the spread and that’s why it’s such a profitable business.

Yet looking through the lines on Bodog.eu, Week 1 finds three games where the spread is incredibly far off.

The betting public is falling in love with certain teams and it’s your job to take advantage of them.

Minnesota Vikings (plus nine) at San Diego Chargers.

The Vikings are getting no respect with the betting public and head into Week 1 as the largest underdog.

Can you explain to me why a team that has All-Pro’s at running back (Adrian Peterson) and D-Line (Kevin Williams and Jared Allen) is getting no respect?

The QB situation has been ironed out and Donovan McNabb still has two years of better-than-average football ahead of him.

With Percy Harvin and Bernard Berrian at his disposal, expect McNabb and the rest of the Vikings offense to be extremely explosive.

The Chargers typically start the season slow and are no strangers to lose on Opening Day, despite their incredible talent on both sides of the ball.

Take the points.

St. Louis Rams (plus five-and-a-half) vs. Philadelphia Eagles.

The Rams are an up-and-coming team that added key parts to an explosive offense. The Rams fell just short of the postseason in Sam Bradford’s rookie season and will only get better.

The Eagles have been the favorites ever since they threw cash at seemingly every big-name free agent. But it’s going to take time for all of the new players to get on the same page.

With a hostile crowd at the Edwards Jones Dome, expect the Eagles to struggle out of the gate and ultimately lose Week 1.

Getting five-and-a-half points gives you some nice breathing room.

While the Bengals aren’t going to be world-beaters this season, they can hang with their Ohio division rival.

The two teams always play close games and the Browns have just as many issues as the Bengals.

The best unit on the field is the Cincinnati defense and generating a few turnovers will keep them in the game until the very end.

With a full TD to spare, this is an extremely safe pick.
