Fantasy Football Week 1 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: 5 Key Moves to Ensure Victory

Richard LangfordSep 7, 2011

With your fantasy football roster set, it is time to start deciding who you will start and who you should sit for Week 1.

Now, just because you drafted someone high and they promise to be a fantasy stud doesn't mean you should start them every week.

Also, don't forget about your bench. These guys can pop off any week for huge games. You don't want to leave them on the bench when they do.

With that in mind, here are three bench players that should start and two stars that you should sit.

Start 'em

Ryan Grant, Green Bay Packers

Ryan Grant is completely healthy and ready to roll. While the Packers love to pass the ball, and rightfully so, Grant should get plenty of touches in this one.

The Packers are primed and ready to go in this contest. They are playing in front of a home crowd that will be ready to fire up their team as they shower them with love from their Super Bowl championship.

The Packers are going to roll in this game, and that is going to mean lots of second-half touches for Grant against a suspect rush defense for the Saints.

Kyle Orton, Denver Broncos

The best decision the Broncos made all preseason was to not trade Kyle Orton. He was fantastic in the preseason and he has plenty of options to throw to.

He should also find plenty of open receivers. The Raiders defense was horrid in the preseason and their secondary is a mess as they try to regroup from the loss of Nnamdi Asomugha.

Orton is going to put up plenty of yards and probably a couple of TDs.

Sit 'em

Dwayne Bowe, Kansas City Chiefs

Dwayne Bowe is not going to get many targets in Week 1.

Matt Cassel may or may not play for the Chiefs due to a rib injury. Tyler Palko is not a QB you want to count on when it comes to getting your receiver the ball. Even if Cassel does play, don't look for Bowe to get much action.

The Chiefs are going to run early and often on the Bills. It is their bread and butter, and they figure to do some serious buttering against a very questionable run defense for the Bills.

Michael Turner, Atlanta Falcons

Michael Turner is a consistent fantasy producer.

He is set to get off to a slow start in 2011, though.

He is set to take on the Bears' stiff rushing defense at Soldier Field. I expect the Falcons to test the Bears' passing defense with much more regularity than they take to the ground.

Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints

It is hard to ever sit Drew Brees, but if you are going to, this is the game.

The Packers feature an extraordinary pass defense. The Packers defense is also going to be rooted on by a loud crowd that is still delirious from the Super Bowl victory.

The Packers defense is going to be in lock-down mode for this contest, and Drew Brees' numbers will be the victim.
