Paul Holmgren: Philadelphia Flyers GM Hospitalized After Bike Accident
Philadelphia Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren was hospitalized on Monday after a bike accident, but he is expected to make a full recovery and resume his position with the team shortly.
According to the report on FoxSports.com, Holmgren was injured in New Jersey while riding his bike and is in stable condition. He lost his balance while riding, fell to the ground and cut his head and scraped his shin.
Holmgren took over as general manager of the Flyers in 2006 after working in the scouting department for the team the previous 11 seasons. When he took over, this team was in dire straits; they lost all of their best players and were nowhere close to contention. The team had the worst season in franchise history with a 22-48-12 record.

But the bad times would not last long as the Flyers made it to the playoffs in 2007, making a surprise run to the Eastern Conference finals before losing to Pittsburgh in five games.
The Flyers made it back to the postseason in 2008 but were eliminated in the first round, once again by Pittsburgh.
In 2009, the Flyers were inconsistent in the regular season, which was a common theme for this team in the previous two years, but they did get into the playoffs as the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference. They were able to put together a magical run that included a stunning seven-game series win against the Boston Bruins in which the Flyers trailed the series 3-0. They lost to Chicago in six games in the Stanley Cup Finals.
In 2010, the Flyers were the second-best team in the East during the regular season but were eliminated by the Bruins in the second round.
Holmgren has done a fantastic job of building this franchise from the ground up in the five seasons that he has been general manager, and this team needs him as much as he needs them.
Thankfully, this accident is not serious, and he will be back in the front office before you know it.
