Fantasy Football Sleepers: 4 Sleepers Guaranteed to Emerge in Week 1
There has been countless lists of sleepers and studs across all kinds of NFL fantasy football coverage over the past few months, but this weekend all that talk will be meaningless as teams finally take to the field.
Some sleepers will take time to emerge while others will burst onto the scene with an Arian Foster type of impact from the start.
Here are a few players that are likely to have a big week even if you don't expect them to.
Steven Jackson
1 of 4Jackson is still a top-20 draft pick in most leagues, but his stock has taken a hit with Josh McDaniels' appointment in St. Louis and Sam Bradford's expected emergence under the new system.
However, Jackson will have the best opening week of any running back this weekend and has many looking at him as an elite fantasy player once again.
The Rams will be looking to control the clock against the Eagles and have shown through the preseason that they will be willing to play heavy sets and blast Jackson at defenses repeatedly.
Many teams will try to take the Eagles out of their comfort zone by running the ball on them. Jackson will have more success than anyone because he specializes in carrying he load and overpowering soft-centered defenses.
Colt McCoy
2 of 4Colt McCoy gets to take the first shot against the Cincinnati Bengals defense that figures to be one of the worst in the league.
The loss of Johnathan Joseph hurts, but at least Leon Hall remains. The problem for the Bengals is that the Browns will spread the field and not focus on one receiver. If Hall takes one player out of the game the Browns will be happy to go to whoever is left over.
Greg Little and Ben Watson could have big games, but it will be McCoy's accuracy and comfort in the West Coast Offense that'll see him put up big fantasy numbers.
Tim Hightower
3 of 4The Redskins welcome the New York Giants to Washington to open their 2011 regular season. The Giants defense is in transition for the start of the season as they try to figure out how to deal with all their injuries from the preseason.
Hightower should see a lot of carries as the Redskins test the resilience of the interior of the Giants defensive line while also looking to establish a running game to slow the pass rush.
Ben Tate
4 of 4The likelihood of Arian Foster suiting up for Week 1 is irrelevant as Ben Tate will get plenty of chances to show off against the Indianapolis Colts either way.
Tate is a resilient runner with the ability to break off huge gains. Against the Colts' soft run defense he should have every chance to shine. He won't repeat Arian Foster's breakout game from last year, but he should still put up big fantasy numbers for those that took a chance on him in later rounds.
