Green Bay Packers: 5 Best Players the Packers Cut
The start of the NFL regular season is only days away for the Green Bay Packers, who finalized their 53-man roster this past Saturday. Some players were obvious choices to get cut, but there were some quality players that the Packers had to let go.
Today we will look at the five best players that the Packers cut.
Ricky Elmore, OLB
1 of 5To me, this was the most surprising cut the Green Bay Packers made because Ricky Elmore showed the skills in college to be a quality pass rusher. Considering the depth issues at outside linebacker, Elmore must have had a really difficult time transitioning from college to the professional level.
However, he is still young and could have been used simply as a pass-rushing specialist. I don't think it will be very long before Elmore is on a roster somewhere else.
Dimitri Nance, RB
2 of 5Even though the Green Bay Packers are loaded at running back with Ryan Grant, James Starks and Alex Green, I still feel as if Dimitri Nance could have made an impact somewhere on this team.
Nance is a strong runner who is smart and rarely makes mistakes. A player like that can always be used somewhere.
Josh Gordy, CB
3 of 5Josh Gordy has loads of talent. Unfortunately, he was originally picked up by a team that is already stacked at the cornerback position.
Had Gordy signed with a different team first, he most likely would have made the final roster. He has starting potential and with the right instruction he could become a very good player.
Anthony Levine, S
4 of 5Many project Anthony Levine to play behind Nick Collins on the Green Bay Packers depth chart, but that obviously won't be happening.
The cutting of Levine leaves major problems with depth at the safety position. What will Green Bay do if Collins gets injured? Levine might not be a long term answer, but he has some ability and would have been a nice safety valve in case Collins got hurt.
Adrian Battles, OL
5 of 5There are some players who are physically talented. While Adrian Battles doesn't necessarily fall into that category, he does fall into the category of being psychologically talented.
When the Green Bay Packers picked up Battles late last year they were obviously just looking for some depth on their depleted roster. However, what they got was the ultimate good luck charm as the Packers didn't lose a game for the rest of the year.
Personally, a good luck charm is a hard player to let go.
