A Must Win For The Bucks In November

Jesse MotiffNov 19, 2008

The Bucks played their worst game of the year last night in Denver, but have a chance to make up for it tonight in Utah.

Although the Bucks lost by only nine, the outcome was never in doubt. The Bucks were down by as many as 20 in the second quarter. Richard Jefferson picked up three fouls in the first five minutes of the game and was never a factor.

After the game, Jefferson put the blame squarely on himself by apologizing to his teammates for his play and promising to step up his play and do more for the team.

I wasn't convinced of this team at the beginning of the year, but after watching them play and seeing the talent they have, I believe they can make a run for the playoffs. Scott Skiles needs to impose his will on this roster for that to happen.

For all the talk Michael Redd has done year after year that he's willing to sacrifice scoring for wins, he's yet to come through on that. This team has enough playmakers that Redd does not need to be the focal point of the offense. Jefferson, Andrew Bogut, Luke Ridnour and Ramon Sessions have all shown that they can step in and fill the scoring void left since Redd has been injured.

Bogut should be the centerpiece of the offense. He doesn't need to take all the shots, but the offense should at least flow through him to keep him involved and bring continuity to the unit. When Bogut is more involved in the offense, he seems to play much better and more aggressive defense.

Does anyone still doubt that Sessions is ready for prime time? This kid is an absolute spark plug. Good things seem to happen every time he's on the floor. I think Session will be the long-term point guard for this team.

Joe Alexander is finally working his way into the rotation and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute has been the steal of the draft thus far. It was known that Mbah a Moute would be a good defender and rebounder, but his exceptional defense and offensive production has already earned him a starting role for this team.

The Bucks are a very talented and versatile team, even without Redd and Charlie Villanueva. If they can get on board with the team concept and are willing to play defense, the Bucks will make the playoffs.

For now, RJ needs to lead the Bucks into Salt Lake City tonight and get the Bucks back on the winning track. A win tonight and the Bucks can get back to .500 Friday night at the Bradley Center against the Knicks.
