Fantasy Football Week 1 Rankings: 5 RBs Sure to Rack Up Points in Season Opener

Eric BallJun 7, 2018

Fantasy points in Week 1 are incredibly hard to predict.

Nobody knows what to expect and plenty of assumptions are made without having more than a "gut feeling" on someone.

Yet here are five running backs that will light up the fantasy scoreboard right off the bat due to their opponent and current situation in the offense:

Fantasy Football Busts You Need to Avoid

1. Jamaal Charles, Kansas City Chiefs

He is a must-play ever week, but he's going to play extremely well against the Buffalo Bills.

The Bills are going to get destroyed by the run and the Chiefs enter the new season after sporting the No. 1 ranked running attack.

Expect 20 touches for Charles, which is more than enough to get him 100 yards.

2. Beanie Wells, Arizona Cardinals

Expect Wells to finally break the 1,000-yard mark and he will get a huge chunk of that right off the bat.

The Carolina Panthers horrendous defense and have been getting crushed by the run in the preseason. With the Cardinals still adjusting to their new QB, expect Wells to get a ton of touches in Week 1.

3. Jahvid Best, Detroit Lions

With the fragile frame of Best...play him while he's still completely healthy. He is the featured back of an offense that has looked terrific over the past month.

The same can't be said for the Lions opponent.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had a incredibly rough preseason and enter the season with a ton of question marks. Their defense was a huge disappointment and it looks as if the unit has taken a step back after a surprise 2010.

4. Cedric Benson, Cincinnati Bengals

Sure, Benson has been sitting in jail for the past five days, but that doesn't mean he won't be ready to bash the Browns.

He has historically destroyed the Cleveland run defense and there is no reason to think things have changed. Last year he put up 210 yards and a TD in his two games against his Ohio rival.

Benson has turned into an extremely consistent player that typically puts up the same numbers every week.

Unless it's the Browns.

5. Joseph Addai, Indianapolis Colts

The oft-injured back is like Best...start him now before he gets hurt.

With Peyton Manning's neck still bothering him, it looks as if Kerry Collins will be starting Week 1.

That means there will be an extremely heavy dose of Addai as the Colts attempt to move the chains with a QB that's been on the team for only a few weeks.

Addai is a prime contender to reach the 100-yard mark in the opening week.
