Fantasy Football Draft Strategy: WRs Are the Most Reliable Route to Success

Michael DixonJun 7, 2018

How many good fantasy RBs are there?

There are a lot, but the platooning world of the NFL leaves very few that are reliable week to week as fantasy weapons.

Adrian Peterson is obviously elite. Arian Foster has only one year as a starter, but looks to be great. Chris Johnson is always dependable. Jamaal Charles gets a lot of yards, but lacks the touchdown production makes him a question mark. Still, as a No. 4 pick, he's not a bad option.

But where do you go from there? I have a suggestion. Receivers, and a lot of them.

Most leagues call for three or even four receivers. If you look in the right places, that's a far deeper week to week position than running back.

One touchdown catch and 30 yard receiving day gets you decent point production from a No. 2 or No. 3 receiver.

Look at guys who are the second or third receivers on teams with big offensive production and have top quarterbacks.

Try a Lance Moore, Hines Ward, James Jones, Jordy Nelson, or any number of Patriots' receivers. What do these guys have in common? Their quarterbacks are elite and they have other receivers that will draw a ton of attention from their opponent.

If Wes Welker is being double teamed, do you really want to bet against Tom Brady finding Chad Ochocinco in a mismatch? You're braver than I am if you answered yes.

Find receivers and look to fill the running back positions as some of your sleeper picks become available. Do not reach for a platoon running back. That’s a decision that you will regret by the second week of the season.

Take advantage of the depth at receiver throughout the league. Look at pass heavy offenses that are led by top QB’s. More opportunities will be there than people realize.
