NFL Week 12 Running Back Rankings

Michael WhooleyNov 18, 2008

There were a rash of injuries this past weekend, most notably Earnest Graham and Steven Jackson, so this article is a must read if for nothing other than checking out who is injured and who is not. Of course check throughout the week as player notes change. That being said instead of giving you a long intro, let's just get into deep reading.

Lets get to what the Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Week 12 Running Back Rankings have to offer.

Key Abbreviations: YPC (Yards Per Carry), YPG (Yards Per Game), FPPW (Fantasy Points Per Week)

--------------------

1. Matt Forte (Chicago Bears) @ St. Louis

Forte, who has averaged about 110 combined yards a game and has visited pay-dirt seven times so far during his rookie campaign takes on a rush defense that has allowed the most rushing TD's by any team in 2008 with 18. Considering that the Rams also give up 158. Four rushing yards per game this could turn out to be Forte's best week yet, earning him the rank of the Bruno Boys best RB for Week 12. It doesn't hurt that he is averaging 14 fantasy points per week (FPPW).
Point Projection: 23 points

2. LaDainian Tomlinson (San Diego) vs. Indianapolis

This year hasn't been a kind year for Tomlinson. He has been struggling with a bad toe and his production shows it. He is putting up just short of a 100 combined yards per week, which as everyone knows just is not his style. Also, he is down to just six TD's through his first 10 games, a far cry from what his normal average is every year. This week he does face an Indianapolis club that has been very kind to opposing RB's, so this should be a solid week in the right direction. He has averaged about 12 fantasy points per week and if Bob Sanders doesn't play for the Colts it should be great week for the Tomlinson fantasy owners.
Point Projection: 21 points

--------------------

3. Adrian Peterson (Minnesota Vikings) @ Jacksonville

Despite having a great rookie year, Peterson was inconsistent at times. This year, Peterson is proving that he is the poster boy for consistency. He is putting up close to 120 combined yards per week while throwing in seven TD's to boot. This week he faces a Jacksonville defense that is tough at times, but for the most part fairly giving to fantasy RB's. This is a solid match up which makes Peterson a must play this week.
Point Projection:  21 points

--------------------

4. Marion Barber (Dallas Cowboys) vs. San Francisco

This young, stud RB for Dallas has averaged 108 combined yards this year as well as combined for 8 TD's on the season. This week he takes on one of the more giving rush defenses in the game in the 49ers. Barber has averaged 15 fantasy points per week which makes this a great match up for his owners.
Point Projection: 20 points

--------------------

5. Steve Slaton (Houston Texans) @ Cleveland

As rookie seasons go, not many get more exciting than what Slaton has done. Not only has he scored seven times, but he has also averaged 90 combined yards per week and has scored at a clip of 12 FPPW. Even better yet, this week he takes on a Cleveland rush defense that has a very hard time against the rush. You can do much worse than Slaton this week, in fact there are only 4 RB's that we believe will produce better.
Point Projection: 19 points

--------------------

6. Marshawn Lynch (Buffalo Bills) @ Kansas City

This has been a somewhat disappointing season for Lynch owners as even though he has scored 7 times, he has averaged short of 100 combined yards per game. Considering that he has also averaged 12 FPPW it hasn't been a disaster by any means, just less than what fantasy owners had expected. The good news though is that he faces the most generous rushing defense, bar the last three weeks. If you are looking for a very solid RB, Lynch is a great choice.
Point Projection: 19 points

--------------------

7. Clinton Portis (Washington Redskins) @ Seattle **Check Status**

If Portis were healthy he would be rated much higher, but you have to admit he is a trooper. Even though some predicted that he could miss a good handful of weeks he was in the trenches against Dallas last week. You have to respect that, but that won't translate into good fantasy numbers. This week he faces a Seattle defense that comes and goes so it is hard to predict what they will allow in any given week, but knowing Portis, especially since Betts is banged up once again too, if he is suited up he has a shot at a very solid week.
Point Projection:  18 points
