2011 NFL Fantasy Football Strategy Tips: Andre Roberts Likely to Start

Sean E. DouglasSep 2, 2011

Andre Roberts Likely No.2 Receiver For Cardinals

While the Cardinals managed to re-sign Larry Fitzgerald, the team has lost some key receivers of the past two offseasons in Anquan Boldin and Steve Breaston. Coming into camp, many felt Arizona might look for a No. 2 option in the free-agent market, but they decided to coach up the talent already on the depth chart.

Veteran Early Doucet has shown flashes in the past of being a possible option to play opposite Fitzgerald, but it has been another younger receiver who seems to be on the path to winning the job in Andre Roberts.

To find out a little more about this situation, I contacted Cardinals’ beat-writer Kent Somers and asked him if Doucet had any chance of beating Roberts for the job, in the teams forth preseason game. Somers replied by tweeting back that he believes Roberts is likely to win the starting job, as the coaching staff likes this kid a lot.

In a recent article by Somers, he did point out that Roberts isn’t likely to put up big numbers opposite Fitz, even if he holds off Doucet for the year. While Roberts has taken big strides this off-season, he still has much to learn in terms of the nuances of the game, and this will be a year of growth.

Still, give Roberts a shot late in deep drafts in leagues with 14-teams or deeper, as he will get one on one coverage with Fitz on the other side.

If Roberts can keep the job all year, he has a chance to develop into a fantasy relevant player for the second half of this season, and in deep leagues, you’re looking for players with upside in the late rounds.

Reggie Bush Could Be Feature Back, Early On

Dolphins beat-writer Omar Kelly recently predicted that Reggie Bush could post 1,500 total yards this season, if he can stay healthy for a full sixteen games.

Fantasy Outlook – Even Coach Tony Sporano admitted that Bush is likely to lead the team in touches and carries, as it looks like he’s separated from the pack of Dolphins running backs. While the Dolphins offensive line is still problematic, Bush is worthy of inserting into your flex position at the beginning of the season.

With rookie Daniel Thomas struggling in camp, expect Bush to be the main option on the field, and his quarterbacks tendency to check down, should work into his favor. As long as Bush can hold up, he’s an undervalued starter in fantasy leagues.

Could Rookie Greg Little Be The Browns No.1 Receiver?

When asked, who has a chance to be the No.1 receiver in Cleveland, Browns’ beat-writer Tony Gossi responded by saying it might be rookie Greg Little.

Fantasy Outlook - Through camp, Little has struggled, but he does have the better upside of the Browns weak receiving core. In the long run, Little could be the Browns top receiver, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s worthy off a late-season addition off the waiver wire. At this time, Little isn’t expected to start, but keep his name in-mind as we move along, through the season.
