Twas the night before a Leafs game, and in Ron Wilson's dog house,
was Jason Blake whom is small as a mouse.
The equipment was hung in the dressing room with care,
In hopes that the stench would be gone with a little bit of air.
 
The players were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of a play-off birth danced in their heads.
And Don Cherry on coaches corner in a pink flashy tie,
said the Leafs would be good, no word of a lie.
 
While in the Air Canada Center there arose such a clatter,
Cliff Fletcher sprang from his office to see what was the matter.
Away to center ice he flew as fast a 70-year-old could,
Thinking the Leafs won't get Tavares if they continued to be good.
 
The lights from the teletron were gleaming so nice,
Gave the lustre of game-night on the freshly cleaned ice.
When, what to Fletcher's eyes should appear,
But a burley man in a Ducks jersey with a cigar smoking sneer.
 
With the media surrounding him, he was so witty and perk,
Fletcher knew in a moment it must be Brian Burke.
More rapid than Grabovski his curses they came,
and he whistled, and shouted, and called the Leafs by name.
 
"Now Stajan! now, Antropov! now, Kaberle and Schenn!
On, Ponikarovsky! on, Kubina! on, Van Ryn and Hagman!
To the top of the East, to the top of the League!
Now skate lines! Skate lines! 'Til you tire from fatigue!"
 
And then, in a twinkling, Fletcher heard on the t.v.,
That Burke got two number one picks for Blake and Pogge.
As he drew in his head, and was turning around,
Up came Brian Burke with his winning background.
 
"Hello Cliff," he said as he put out his hand,
"I'm here to relieve you of your duties, and I'm a big fan."
His Stanley Cup ring was in the shape of a Duck,
With hopes of bringing one to Toronto with a little luck.
 
After the brief conversation he went straight to work,
He fingered all the media, then turned with a jerk.
The Leafs had their man, as he walked out of sight,
Fletcher heard there was to be another team in T.O., so he'd be alright.
