Fantasy Football Draft Strategy: Ben Tate and 5 Players You Must Target

Cian FaheySep 2, 2011

If you could build the perfect fantasy football team you would probably end up with Michael Vick, Adrian Peterson, Chris Johnson, Andre Johnson...etc.

However the truth is unless you are the only one in your league, it is impossible to get all the players that sit atop your rankings.

Yet it is not totally unrealistic to get all the players that you want, presuming that you are realistic of course.

Here are five players worth watching out for ahead of the 2011 NFL regular season.

Ben Roethlisberger

1 of 5

Roethlisberger's talented receiving corp is being talked about a lot by prospective fantasy owners yet he doesn't seem to be garnering much attention himself.

He is in great condition—probably the best of his career—behind an improved offensive line with the return of Willie Colon.

He has more weapons than most quarterbacks in the league and has proven in the past that he can put up big numbers. Roethlisberger isn't ranked among the top 6-7 quarterbacks so he will likely be picked up easily if you plan your draft accordingly.

Tim Hightower

2 of 5

Hightower is radically rising draft boards after an impressive preseason that saw him win the starting job in Washington.

The Redskins will be running their zone blocking scheme as always with Mike Shanahan at the helm. With Hightower's determined and effective running he should put up a lot of yardage and touchdowns for a late round running back.

Miami Dolphins' Defense

3 of 5

The Dolphins' defense isn't going drafted in leagues more often than not.

However they will be the hottest commodity on the waiver wire. The team's front seven is stellar which should see them put up a lot of sacks while Mike Nolan has a history of getting the best out of mediocre talent, with studs like Vontae Davis and Karlos Dansby being added to with the development of Koa Misi and Jared Odrick as well as Kevin Burnett's arrival, the Dolphins figure to have a top five defense this year.

Lance Kendricks

4 of 5

Sam Bradford has shown in college and as a rookie that he loves throwing to tight ends.

He has proven in the preseason that he loves throwing to Lance Kendricks! The second round draft pick has six receptions in the preseason for 108 yards and two touchdowns. He has shown that he is an all around player with explosion to get downfield as well as be a factor in the red zone.

Ben Tate

5 of 5

Whether Arian Foster starts 16 games or not this season Ben Tate still carries value in most fantasy leagues.

He won't be getting 20 touches a game but should make a lot of what chances he does get. Tate is an abrasive runner with the explosive ability to hit home runs. The Texans are a good running team and Tate could force their hand and make them man the position by committee rather than focus on Foster.
