New York Jets: The 12 Most Outrageous Moments of Rex Ryan's Career
America has had a front row view of Rex Ryan and all of his crazy antics over the past two years.
From his introductory press conference, to him showing up at training camp with a leg tattoo and everything in between, there has never been a dull moment in the life of Rex Ryan.
While he isn't the most liked coach, there is no denying that Ryan is great for the game.
Here are the 12 most outrageous moments of Rex Ryan's career.
12. Introductory Press Conference
1 of 12Rex Ryan wasted no time in asserting who he was. In his introductory press conference with the New York Jets, Ryan gave the media a sneak peak at what they were in for. The most memorable quotes are below:
"First off, with all the cameras I was looking for our new president [Barack Obama] back there. I think we'll get to meet him in the next couple of years anyway."
"The message to the rest of the league is, hey, the Jets are coming and we're going to give you everything we got. And I think that's going to be more than you can handle."
11. Switches Jerseys at NHL Game
2 of 12Rex Ryan made an appearance at a Carolina Hurricanes home game wearing a Philadelphia Flyers jersey.
He was spotted by the cameras when the Hurricanes cheerleaders approached him and offered him a Hurricanes jersey to put on.
Ryan obliged, and as he took off the jersey his bare belly was exposed, which gave the crowd and Rex a big laugh.
10. Voicemail for Jets Season-Ticket Holders
3 of 12If you were a New York Jets season-ticket holder, you received a special message from Rex Ryan when the Jets took on the New England Patriots in the home opener of the 2009 season.
Ryan recorded a 70-second message that was sent to every season-ticket holder, challenging the fans to "be at their best" and to make it "miserable" for Tom Brady and the Patriots.
The New York Jets went on to defeat the Patriots 16-9.
9. Brings Box of Tissues to Press Conference
4 of 12In a speech to the team after a hard fought loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Rex Ryan broke down in tears.
"He didn't bash us at all; he was just very emotional...he was crying," right tackle Damien Woody told The New York Post.
Word started to spread about Ryan crying and he decided to have fun with the whole situation. That week he opened a press conference by bringing a box of tissues to the podium and declaring Kleenex as a team sponsor. The press room erupted with laughter as Ryan pulled his latest stunt.
8. Leg Tattoo
5 of 12Rex Ryan showed up to training camp this year sporting some new ink on his leg. The tattoo drew so much buzz that Ryan held a press conference to reveal it's meaning.
“My new tat means, believe in yourself, which I got no problem doing,” Ryan said.
7. Claims the Jets Are Eliminated from the Playoffs
6 of 12In Week 15 of the 2009 NFL season, the New York Jets suffered a last second defeat to the Atlanta Falcons. The loss put the Jets at 7-7, a spot at which Rex Ryan believed they were out of playoff contention.
"We're obviously out of the playoffs, and that's unfortunate," Ryan said in his post game conference.
That obviously wasn't the case and as we all know, the Jets went on to win their next two games to make the playoffs, where they would reach the AFC Championship Game.
6. Flipping the Bird at MMA Fight
7 of 12Rex Ryan was enjoying the Strikeforce Miami show with a few of his friends before trouble started.
He was being interviewed, when some Miami Dolphins fans spotted him and started heckling him. Some reports said that he was spit on.
As he was leaving, Ryan responded in typical Ryan fashion. By flipping the fans the bird.
Rex later apologized and was fined by the New York Jets.
5. War of Words with Channing Crowder
8 of 12Rex Ryan is never afraid to mix it up and before the 2009 season—before he ever coached a game in the NFL—he got into a war of words with Miami Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder. Neither of the two hesitate to speak their minds, which led to a great back and forth between the two.
“I don’t know this Channing Crowder. All I know is that he’s all tatted up, so I guess I ought to be nervous about him. If I was younger, I’d probably handle him myself.”
Ryan ended the war of words with one final remark. “Let’s see if he can top this one. I’ve walked over tougher guys going to a fight.”
4. Signing ESPN Training Camp Bus
9 of 12Last summer ESPN's Adam Schefter took a bus tour to a bunch of NFL Training camps. When he left each camp, he asked someone to sign their club's logo on the bus.
When he stopped at New York Jets camp, he interviewed Rex Ryan and asked him to sign the bus.
Ryan signed his name, like everybody else, but also added "soon to be champs."
When Schefter made it to the New England Patriots camp, Wes Welker signed the bus "one game at a time."
3. Pretending to Be Rob Ryan
10 of 12As the New York Jets prepared to face the Cleveland Browns last season, Rex Ryan decided to have a little fun during a midweek press conference.
Rex dressed up as his brother Rob, who was then the defensive coordinator for the Browns, and impersonated him.
2. Let's Go Eat a Goddamn Snack
11 of 12When the New York Jets were featured on Hark Knocks last year, the star of the show was Rex Ryan. Every episode Ryan had multiple great lines that had audiences in stitches laughing.
This speech was the best moment from the show. Ryan was delivering a serious speech to the team grilling them on their performance and then ends with perhaps the greatest line in the history of reality TV: "Let's go eat a goddamn snack."

1. Foot Fetish
12 of 12Late in the 2010 season, as the New York Jets were trying to clinch a playoff birth, the team was struck with a massive off the field distraction involving Rex Ryan.
To summarize, a series of videos appeared on the web with a woman who looked a lot like Michelle Ryan, Rex's wife. In the videos, the woman is showing off her feet and having a conversation with the camera man, who sounded an awful lot like Rex Ryan. The videos went viral and the story became front page news.
Ryan never confirmed or denied that he and his wife were in those videos.
"To be honest, and I get it, I know you need to ask and all that stuff," Ryan told reporters. "But it's a personal matter and I'm really not going to discuss it, OK?"
