Leonel Messi has won the Goal.com 50 Best Player Award For 2010-2011. Messi easily defeated Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) by a difference of 12.9% or 42,438 votes.
Messi received 44.9% or 146,866 votes. Ronaldo received 32.0% or 104,428 votes and received a narrow victory among Goal.com readers living in Turkey as well as Hong Kong.
The voter turnout in the Goal.com vote was 300,000, which is a great number.
Messi expressed his thanks to the staff and readers of Goal.com for their support. Messi also acknowledged that the prize is another incentive for him to continue work with FC Barcelona and Argentina.
The rest of the results were as follows: Javier (Chicharito) Hernandez was in third place with 5.6% or 18,287 votes, Mesut Ozil with 4.9% or 16,122 votes, and Xavi with 4.3% or 14,191 votes.
