G DJun 4, 2018

Over the past decade we have seen some of the most exciting things happen in the world of sports. Sports fans have witnessed the buzzer beaters, game winning field goals, and walk off home runs. What makes each sport so great is the competitiveness displayed by the world class athletes in each respected sport.

While sports fans have seen it all, they can never get enough of the brawls that result from tensions of the game. These occurences are few and far between which makes them even more electrifying when they do happen. There have been many brawls over the past several years but there are some that stand out above the rest.

The following video slides are the Top 5 Sports Brawls over the past decade. Please sit back and enjoy.

Honorable Mention: Raiders Fans vs. 49ers Fans

1 of 6

When it comes to the Oakland Raiders there are always two things certain to happen, a losing season and their fans fighting. This has held true especially this preseason where they Raiders fans squared off with the San Francisco 49ers fans in a meaningless preseason game on August 21st.

While it was difficult to declare a winner as everyone was swinging at everyone, it was good enough to be ranked as honorable mention on the power rankings.

5. Georgetown Hoyas Men's Basketball Team vs. China Basketball Team

2 of 6

If you can't beat them on the court then literally beat them. So was the motto of the China basketball team in an exhibition scrimmage against the Georgetown Hoyas in the middle of August. While China was down on the scoreboard, they were determined to come out on top in some sense of the imagine.

The bench clearing brawl was good enough for fifth on the power rankings.

4. Andre Johnson vs. Cortland Finnegan

3 of 6

Andre Johnson is not a man to be messed with, just ask Titans' defensive back Cortland Finnegan. When the Texans squared off with the Titans this past season Finnegan was beaten down the field and to the ground.

This wasn't the first time Finnegan was involved in an altercation proving himself as a "loud mouth". Johnson took down Finnegan early in the match and ended the fight with TKO or Doctor (Referee) stoppage. This fight was good enough for fourth on the power rankings.

3. Philadelphia Flyers vs. Ottawa Senators

4 of 6

If it weren't for the UFC, the NHL would be the center stage for fighting in North America. Just ask the Philadelphia Flyers and the Ottawa Senators. This bout took place during the 2006 season and still remains one of the best hockey fights in the history of the sport.

It appears that nearly everyone was involved, as these two set a record for the most penalty minutes in a single game. This brawl was good enough for third on the power rankings.

2. Miami Hurricane Football Team vs. Florida International Football Team

5 of 6

The Miami Hurricanes squared off with Florida International in one of the best team fights of all-time. FIU was all but down and out on the scoreboard before they took their talents to the ring. FIU took an early lead and won the opening round.

Miami bounced back to win the final two rounds and came out victorious in more than one way in their matchup during the 2006 season. It was reported that an injured player on the sideline joined in on the brawl, swinging his crutches at an opposing player.

This matchup was good enough for second on the power rankings.

1. Ron Artest and Stephen Jackson vs. Every Detroit Piston Fan

6 of 6

Ron Artest and Stephen Jackson took part in one of the best sports brawls of all-time during the 2004 regular season. Artest who was involved in an on-court altercation was led to the scorer's table where he was struck by a flying beer. Artest took his anger to the stands only to strike the wrong fan.

His sidekick, Jackson, was not far behind landing a blow on another Detroit fan before taking the brawl back to the floor. Artest and Jackson went on to punch another fan on the court knocking him to the ground. While the two landed a few blows to the opposing fans, they received some in return. The Detroit fans weren't shy in swinging back or throwing beer, food and even a chair at the duo.

This bout ended in a draw but was good enough to finish ranked first on the power rankings.
