UFC: As REAL As It Gets!

Sean SchimlingNov 17, 2008

I absolutely HATE when the integrity of something I love comes into question. UFC is not the WWE, we all know that, so why do these little WWE fans come into our SPORT and question it?

They don't understand these men have pride, they train for months and months, and they put themselves on the line every time they step into the cage.

People automatically think since Brock Lesnar, a NCAA wrestler with a record of 106-5, comes into the UFC and wins its a set-up, it was fixed, Randy took a dive. Not the case.

Randy Couture has too much pride and love for the sport to ruin its reputation. I mean, sure we all knew that Dana White benefited greatly from Brock Lesnar winning, but he didn't go as far as to fix the fight. Brock Lesnar won because he was a better fighter that night. It's not crazy to think Brock Lesnar actually trained, and it paid off, is it?

People often bring up the UFC 86 bout between Forrest Griffin and Quinton Jackson. They think someone told the judges, "If it comes to you, FORREST WINS!" That's not the case. WWE fans don't realize that the judges score on a variety of different things:

-Clean Strikes
-Effective Grappling
-Octagon Control
-Effective Aggressiveness

Although I think Rampage did win, I am not a judge, and it seemed to me, after looking at the criteria, Forrest did three out of five. He effectively out grappled Rampage, he had better octagon control, and he displayed more aggression, which translates into a win for Forrest Griffin.

These men give their blood, sweat, and tears to this sport. They aren't in it for fame, they are in it to face the best competition, and maybe some day sit on top of their respective weight classes as a champion.

People who are doubting the UFC just because Brock Lesnar won are ignorant. To say that fights are predetermined,  and Randy Couture allowed Lesnar to pound on him, are saying that Chris Leben was paid to let Anderson Silva turn him into a punching bag. I'm sorry, but you couldn't pay me enough to do that.

People are missing the beauty of this sport—it's an equal opportunity for each fighter to win. Brock Lesnar capitalized on his opportunity. He trained hard and it paid off. Because he was from the WWE, people think it was fixed, and that's BS.

I'm guessing now that Brock is the champion, Frank Mir will win against Nog, right? Because a Mir/Lesnar II would sell more PPV's than a Lesnar/Nogueria, right? If Randy Couture would've won, there would be NO discussion of UFC fixing fights.

This is just like people saying the the Patriots aren't winning this year because Matt Cassel isn't as marketable as Tom Brady. Or that the Celtics won because their three big stars were more marketable than the Lakers three big stars. The Phillies won because Ryan Howard was more marketable than Carl Crawford.

It's stupid!

They both won because they were the better team. The Patriots aren't doing well because their defense is too old.

But I know what I say isn't gonna change people's minds, so I'm just venting. Thanks for reading!
