ACC Coastal...Someone Has to Win It...
So...we have two weeks of ACC football left and we all know with certainty who will go to Tampa from the Coastal, right? You don't? Well, join most everybody else who watches the ACC. At this point, five of the six teams still have a legitimate shot at winning the division (if you want to call it winning). Duke is the lone team without a shot.
For starters, Miami is the only team that controls its destiny right now. However, that is not a good thing looking at recent history. Just this past week, Virginia Tech controlled its destiny and they lost to Miami. That meant UNC controlled its destiny, but they decided to lose to Maryland two days later.
Seven games over the next two weeks have possible implications to figuring this out. The seven games are Miami-Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech-Duke, UNC-NC State, Virginia-Clemson, Virginia Tech-Virginia, UNC-Duke, and Miami-NC State. Thus, there are 128 different possibilities. Here's a team breakdown of what needs to happen (number of possibilities):
Miami (66)—They go to Tampa if:
They win their last two games, or
They beat Georgia Tech, lose to NC State, and have either UNC lose at least another game or have either VT or UVA win out, or
They lose to Georgia Tech, beat NC State, and have UVA win out and have UNC lose at least one more game
Georgia Tech (24)—They go to Tampa if:
They beat Miami and must have VT, UVA, and UNC all lose at least one more game
Virginia Tech (16)—They go to Tampa if:
They win out and Georgia Tech beats Miami
North Carolina (12)—They go to Tampa if:
They win out and have Miami, Virginia Tech, and Virginia all lose at least one more game
Virginia (10)—They go to Tampa if:
They win out, Georgia Tech beats Miami, and...
Miami lose to NC State and/or UNC win out
