Arsenal Transfer Rumours: 7 Players Arsenal Could and Should Sign
Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal. Somewhere down the line it all went wrong for one of the worlds most promising squads.
Remember when Arsene Wenger asked Arsenal fans to be patient with him while he honed his new generation of youngsters? Remember when he said it would all pay off in a few years time? I'm willing to bet that most Arsenal fans expected that pay off to be trophies that are now noticeably absent from the gunners' trophy cabinet.
Now, at the end of Wenger's experiment, all Arsenal fans are left with is an overweight bank balance, an under-performing team of nobodies and a world changing 8-2 defeat to the one club they hate more than Tottenham, Manchester United.
I say world changing because this is the wake up call that something needs to be changed at Arsenal. Wenger's methods aren't working and he needs to go out and spend big and do it quickly. The next slides detail the players Arsene needs to turn Arsenal into world beaters.
Alex Rodrigo Dias Da Costa
1 of 7Alex is in a hard spot right now at Chelsea. He's a world class Center Back but has David Luiz and Branislav Ivanovic ahead of him in the pecking order. Arsenal are in a hard spot due to a lack of decent Center Backs and have been held to ransom for every Center Back they've gone for. Alex has it all, he can defend and score goals, he's big and strong and he can hit a free-kick like no-one else. Players like Alex is the reason Chelsea has the best defensive line in the Premiership and he can help Arsenal patch up theirs. Just to make this an even better deal, Arsenal would be able to get him for cheap, due to Chelsea not needing him.
Christopher Samba
2 of 7So we have the multi-talented Alex on board but there is something he misses. Rule No. 1 of center back partnerships is that there are two main types of center backs, the follower and the leader, and you need both for a successful paring. A leader will get the whole defensive line organised and a follower will quietly work alongside the leader, covering them so they can keep the defensive line in order. Alex is a follower so allow me to introduce you to Arsenal's future leader, Christopher Samba. Samba is very similar to Alex in the fact that he's big, strong and can defend and score goals but he comes with the added bonus of being a leader. Alex and Samba together would be a partnership to be feared and would nearly fix Arsenal's defensive woes.
Danny Simpson
3 of 7Now I used the word nearly on the last page. That's because Arsenal need one more puzzle piece before they've finished their defensive puzzle. Danny Simpson is a great full back and would be the icing on a cake, in a defensive line that includes Alex, Samba and Kieran Gibbs.Newcastle has made a habit of selling their top players for low prices (Jose Enrique) or nothing at all (Joey Barton) so the chance for a deal like this should be right up Wenger's street.
Owen Hargreaves
4 of 7Now we all know that Wenger loves a bargin so this one should have his name printed all over it. Owen Hargreaves on a pay as you play deal is a no brainer. Its a gamble where you can't lose, if he stays fit you get a world class defensive midfielder and if he gets injured then you don't pay him and its like he's not even there. COME ON WENGER!!!
Landon Donovan
5 of 7Probably the most random of my suggestions and maybe the hardest to acquire. LA Galaxy player, Landon Donovan played well for Everton when he played for them a while back and he'd fit quite nicely in Arsenals' midfield. He's got a lot of skill and knows the Premier League very well. The main problem would be that Donovan is a LA Galaxy player through and through, recently stating his love for the club and his desire to stay with them even with a lot of interest from English suitors. That being said, it would take a loyalty not currently seen in football for Donovan to turn down a chance to play for a club like Arsenal. Maybe, if a few Arsenal players showed the same love for their club they might be in a better position.
Eden Hazard
6 of 7At only 20 years old, Eden Hazard won the UNFP Ligue 1 Player of the Season. He was influential in helping Lille win the French league and cup double for the first time since 1946. This was also the second year in a row Hazard had won Lille's Player of the Season. Hazard won't come cheap but he will be worth every penny and he's played with Gervinho before and as such could link up with him well. He's the best player on my list and could be a star for Arsenal for a long time.
Florent Malouda
7 of 7Remember what I said about Alex earlier? Well Florent Malouda is in a very similar boat. Chelsea's over-flowing with some of the best attacking talent in the world and Torres. Malouda faces being forced out of Chelsea's first team plans with Salomon Kalou, Daniel Sturridge, Nicolas Anelka and Juan Mata all being able to play in Malouda's position and more. Faced with such adaptable competition, Malouda's Chelsea days could soon be over and with Arsenal lacking a natural left sided winger it seems to be a marriage formed in football heaven.
