USA vs Belgium: TV Schedule, Live Stream, Game Time and More

Richard LangfordJun 7, 2018

USA will take on Belgium in an International friendly match that will draw more interest from fans than the typical friendly. This will be the US's third match under the Jurgen Klinsmann era. It is the second of two tightly scheduled International friendlies. Prior to this match, the US will battle Costa Rica on Friday September 2nd.

This is a transition time for US soccer, as Klinsmann is finding his own way to utilize the talent on the roster, and changing the roster all together.

Klinsmann just called up D.C. United midfielder Chris Pontius, and Birmingham City defender Jonathan Spector. These two talents will take the place of injured defenders Zach Loyd (FC Dallas) and Heath Pearce (Chivas USA).

Biggest Storyline: How Will Jurgen Klinsmann's Coaching Style Effect the US?

Player to Watch for USA: Clint Dempsey

The most intriguing aspect of this match will be the use of Clint Dempsey. This is scheduled to be Dempsey's first match under Klinsmann. He is receiving treatment for back spasms and will miss the match against Costa Rica.

There is a chance that Dempsey will begin to transition from his usual right wing spot in favor of a central playmaking role.

Player to Watch for Belgium: Axel Witsel

The 22-year-old Witsel is a gifted midfielder whose star is on the rise. He is aggressive and technically-gifted. Witsel is quick on his feet and has the pace to run at defenders. He is also fiercely competitive and a nasty tackler.

Witsel is the heart of Belgium's offense and defense. He is their leading goal scorer in 2011.

Key Matchup: Jozy Altidore vs. Belgium defense

The 21-year-old Altidore finally appears to have his promising career back on track. He is off to a fantastic start with his Dutch club, AZ Alkmaar, and he is no doubt eager to show his new national coach exactly what he is capable of.

Altidore is going to be working hard to convert his chances into goals in this one, and the Belgium defense will have to make him the center of their game plan.

What They're Saying:

Here is what the sportingnews.com had to say about the additions of Chris Pontius and Jonathan Spector to the roster:

"

Spector, 25, is a familiar face on the national team, having been capped 31 times. He was a part of the 2010 World Cup and 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup squads, but didn’t see any action. A Chicago area native, Spector transferred to City this summer after five seasons at West Ham United. He has played four games this month for his new club.

Pontius, 24, is a somewhat surprising addition. An attacking midfielder, he has never played for the U.S. at any level, although an outstanding rookie season in 2009 resulted in an invitation to a national team training camp in January 2010.

Pontius appears to have rediscovered, and surpassed, his 2009 form this season. He missed a significant chunk of last year with a hamstring injury, but has recovered to have seven goals and two assists for a much-improved United side.

"

Final Score:

USA 3

Belgium 1
