Football Transfers: 5 Players Who Would Make a Massive Difference to Arsenal

Colin StoneJun 7, 2018

As I write, Arsenal are reportedly putting the finishing touches to deals for Fenerbahce's Andre Santos, HSV's Eljero Elia and Monaco's Park Chu-Young.

Fans of the Gunners may not know much about these three players, but as a man who prides himself on how much football he watches, I can tell you that those three are not Arsenal standard.

Andre Santos, probably the most likely of the trio to succeed in the Premier League, is a Brazilian fullback with a good left peg who hasn't enjoyed the best of spells in Turkey and is looking for a big move to kick-start his flagging international career.

Eljero Elia, although talented, is frustratingly inconsistent. The Dutch winger can show flashes of skill during a match, but also has the tremendous ability to disappear for long periods. His delivery into the box is often poor and is perhaps a little lightweight for British football.

South Korean forward Park Chu-Young is a decent goal scorer, but his 12 goals in 35 games for Monaco last season is hardly prolific and wasn't enough to keep the French giants in Ligue 1.

He may well turn out to be the new Marouane Chamakh.

So with that being said, here are five players that could definitely make a difference for Wenger's ailing side.

Gary Cahill

Arsenal fans are crying out for this signing.

Bolton's towering centre-back has impressed time and time again for the Trotters and is waiting to make the jump to a bigger club.

However, Owen Coyle claimed that Arsenal bid a pitiful £6 million for the player last week, and this is nowhere near the English defender's true value.

But Cahill, if Wenger wakes up and bids some serious money for him, is one player who would definitely turn Arsenal's leaky defence into a rock-solid fortress.

Mario Gotze

Regardless of where he plays his football, the young German will be one of the top players in the world in a few years' time.

Currently at Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund, the 19-year-old has had an outstanding 12 months for both club and country and somewhat unsurprisingly, some of Europe's biggest clubs are now sniffing around.

Jurgen Klopp recently stated that Götze would not be sold for any less than €35 million, and that may well put off any potential suitors for the time being—but with money in the bank from the sales of Nasri and Fabregas, Wenger may well make a move for this potentially world-class midfielder.

Nenê

Anderson Luiz de Carvalho, aka Nenê, is an exceptionally talented midfielder plying his trade in France.

The PSG playmaker was on fire in the first six months of last season, propelling the Parisians up the table, although a slight drop in form towards the end of the campaign resulted in his club sliding down the league.

Scoring some superb goals and laying on countless assists, the well-travelled Brazilian would give Arsenal the creative spark that the likes of Arshavin and Rosicky cannot seem to deliver.

Papiss Demba Cisse

Arsenal are desperately lacking a striker who can score goals.

Enter Freiburg striker Papiss Demba Cisse.

The Senegalese attacker found the net 22 times for the German outfit last season, finishing just behind Mario Gomez in the goal-scoring charts, and the Bundesliga side seem keen to cash in on their prolific marksman.

Cisse is looking to continue his brilliant form and has already scored four goals in three games this term, but with a combination of close-range finishes, headers and long-range howitzers, the 26-year-old could be just what Wenger is looking for.

Andre Ayew

5 of 6

Marseille's flying forward could be just the perfect fit for the Gunners.

The Ghanaian World Cup star has been linked with the London club in the past, and now is the time for Arsene to make a move for the pacy attacker.

A box of tricks with a thunderbolt of a left boot, Ayew could more than fill the void left by Manchester City-bound Samir Nasri.

And with an apparent buyout clause of €13 million, what is Wenger waiting for?

Conclusion

As Arsenal fans continue to recover from the departure of Cesc Fabregas and their 8-2 drubbing to Man United, Wenger could put a smile back on the fans' faces by signing a new superstar to lead the club to glory.

The five players I've suggested are but a handful of talented footballers who could make a big impact at the Emirates.
