New York Jets vs. New York Giants: 4 Fantasy Football Implications on the Line

Cian FaheyJun 4, 2018

The Giants and Jets renew their rivalry tonight at Meadowlands stadium after being rescheduled thanks to Hurricane Irene.

Last season, this tie was an eventful one as Eli Manning slit his forehead before Victor Cruz broke out and decimated the Jets' secondary.

Anything can happen in any preseason game, and while the result will not matter outside of the city of New York, it will have further implications for many players on the roster.

Subsequently, it will have an effect on many player's fantasy prospects.

The Giants Offensive Line

1 of 4

The Giants offensive line is still looking to prove itself as we head towards the NFL regular season. It has been an impressive transition so far but with such a drastic surgery that it went through, it will still need to take every opportunity to impress.

William Beatty can't be under pressure matching up against Calvin Pace while David Bass will have to show off his ability to diagnose blitzes with Rex Ryan on the opposing sideline.

The Giants offensive line has a knock on effect on the fantasy values of guys like Eli Manning, Ahmad Bradshaw, Mario Manningham and Hakeem Nicks.

Plaxico Burress

2 of 4

Burress will likely be facing off against Aaron Ross on a regular basis tonight after the injuries to Prince Amukamara and Terrell Thomas.

Motivation should be no issue for Burress who is looking to prove himself once again in the NFL while also getting revenge on his former franchise. Right now, Burress is a sleeper as far as fantasy goes because nobody really knows what to expect.

With a big performance tonight, he could solidify himself as a No. 2 receiver on fantasy rosters. However, if he can't take advantage of his matchup with the supposedly inferior Ross his stock will drop very far.

Travis Beckum

3 of 4

The starting tight end spot is Beckum's to lose in New York.

Beckum believes he can outplay the departed Kevin Boss but has yet to show anything. He is starting to draw the ire from the Giants' coaching staff.

As a tight end for the Giants Beckum could put up a lot of fantasy points because the team needs to replace the departed Boss and Steve Smith. If Beckum has a big showing tonight a lot of fantasy owners will jump on him in their drafts.

However, if Beckum continues his current vane of form then he will be worried more about his own roster spot than his fantasy outlook.

Mark Sanchez

4 of 4

Mark Sanchez will be under pressure a lot tonight as the Giants look to cover their secondary issues with even more pressure up front.

Sanchez right now is barely an average fantasy option. The offense around him has more question marks surrounding it this year opposed to last as Derrick Mason and Plaxico Burress are added to the receiving corp while Shonn Greene should carry most of the load.

The quality of the Jets' offensive line shouldn't be a problem, but this game should be a sign as to where Sanchez has developed to in his third and most likely make-or-break season.
