WWE: 12 People Who Could Be Behind Kevin Nash's Actions At Summerslam
It's wrestling's most intriguing 'whodunnit' angle in quite some time. Just who was the dastardly individual that used HHH's phone to instruct Kevin Nash to interfere and take out the winner of the CM Punk vs. John Cena match at Summerslam?
If we believe Punk, pretty much everyone in WWE is a possibility (even the late Jack Tunney!). Heck. this angle has more suspects than your average Agatha Christie novel. Let's play Miss Marple ourselves, and have a rundown of some of the most likely - and least likely- suspects...
John Laurinaitis
1 of 12Well, he's the new favourite candidate for the person who put Nash up to the evil deed.
As Head of Talents Relations, Johnny is, of course, firmly entrenched in the WWE corporate power structure, and it's not difficult to believe he took matters into his own hands at Summerslam, for one reason or another.
Suspiciously, the night after Summerslam he encountered Kevin backstage and talked him into going back to his office where the two could have a “private discussion.” What did those two talk about?
And, of course, Laurinaitus also fed Hunter the lie about Nash's car accident to convince the new C.O.O to leave the building to check on his ostensibly injured friend. Presented as an ass-kissing, slimy heel since his debut on television, we think this guy is tied to far too many things to be totally innocent in this whole mess.
Alberto Del Rio
2 of 12Well, this one is just common sense. Who else benefited more from Nash's interference at Summerslam, but the man who capitalized on Nash's post-match beatdown of new champion, Punk, and cashed in his Money in the Bank title shot?
Del Rio claimed on the Raw after the PPV that he was simply opportunistic and nothing more. But is that wholly the truth? Possibly not. Maybe he was secretly the one who secretly went into Hunter's office, grabbed the phone, and sent the famous text?
Indeed, this development would be a boon for Del Rio who, despite being champion, has so far been playing second-fiddle to all the corporate drama with HHH, Stephanie, Punk and Nash. The revelation that he was the villain behind it all would firmly establish him as Raw's top heel and force fans to take him more seriously than they do.
Stephanie McMahon
3 of 12Stephanie is another heavy favourite to be revealed as the one who sent Nash the text. And, as Hunter's wife, she had access to his phone and could have easily grabbed his phone and sent the text message without her husband noticing.
Indeed, most fans jumped on this scenario on the Raw after Summerslam, after HHH swore to everyone he was innocent- and seemed to be genuinely telling the truth.
Interestingly, CM Punk even suggested this in the middle of a heated argument on Raw with Triple H and Kevin Nash, claiming Stephanie was not as innocent as she appeared to be in the matter and getting an irate HHH even more worked up.
Now, this could be a clue that it was indeed Stephanie, or possibly more likely, an indication from WWE Creative that Stephanie is actually a red herring. After all, these days WWE like to surprise us, and she may be far too obvious a suspect at this point.
Michael Cole
4 of 12The WWE announcer has calmed down quite a bit since his beatdown and humiliation by Jerry Lawler at WWE’s Over the Limit PPV, sticking to just making snarky comments while doing play-by-play.
But would Vince, long described as a fan of Cole’s heel work, consider using him in the main event scene, possibly as Nash’s manager and as the man who ultimately put ‘Big Sexy’ up to his actions at Summerslam? It’s possible.
And, for those viewers who have grown tired of listening to Cole’s obnoxious commentating performance, maybe even desirable. Certainly Cole excels far more as on-screen heel than an announcer.
Vince McMahon
5 of 12I'm fairly sure we haven't seen the last of Vince McMahon as an on-screen character. Heck, it seems any time we do get ready to write off the old guy for good (the limo explosion, the stage collapse during McMahon's Million Dollar Mania, the Nexus beatdown) he finds a way to come back, bigger and badder than ever.
Is it possible that, while seemingly putting on the act of of the betrayed, tearful promoter on his final Raw, he actually had a secret plan to keep and solidify his power? Perhaps HHH and Stephanie are actually caught up in some elaborate doublecross and don't realize it. How CM Punk and John Cena would factor into this, I don't know. But it is a situation ripe for possibilities.
Who knows? Maybe Johnny Ace is in on it all, and acting as Vince's man on the inside, which could explain the secret conversation him and Nash shared a few weeks ago on Raw?
It's not like Vince is a stranger to these “Man Behind the Curtain” storylines: he was ultimately revealed to be the higher power in early 1999, after months of speculation about the identity of the evil figure who was screwing with Austin and the McMahon family.
Let's face it: Mr McMahon is not above messing with own family.
Triple H
6 of 12This really would be the swerve to end all swerves. Vince Russo would shed tears of pride if this happened. No-one would see it coming (well, ideally for WWE creative. In reality, quite a few people have fingered HHH as the mastermind behind this whole evil plot).
Yes, after weeks of loudly proclaiming his innocence to anyone that would listen, it could turn out that the conniving HHH actually set this whole thing up, as a way to do severe damage to either John Cena or CM Punk.
Hey, it's not like HHH as a character is any stranger to elaborate schemes (he was also revealed as the mastermind behind the plot to seriously injure and take out Steve Austin in late 1999).
And besides, if HHH is going to feud with the babyface Punk, as all indications are, he needs to turn heel somewhere down the road. This would be as good a time as any to pull the trigger on evil, corporate HHH.
The Raw Mouse
7 of 12This furry little thing caused a minor stir when it was seen scuttling past Albert Del Rio and his manager Ricardo after the main event of last week's Raw at the Valley View Casino Center.
It even made TMZ (who really will report anything) and caused a flustered Ernie Hahn, who runs the venue, to loudly proclaim that his building certainly did not have a mice problem and the rodent's cameo was likely a child's prank of some sort.
But what if, rather than being a joke, the mouse has a deeper role in events? After his short appearance we know very little about him/her and there could be something more elaborate and far reaching going on here.
What is the mouse's agenda? It is aligned with Cena? Did it text Nash? Does it have an alliance with the bird that took Bischoff hostage on iMPACT a few ago?
We want answers, damnit!
Vickie Guerrero
8 of 12Some people think manager Vickie is being wasted in the mid-card with her boy toy Dolph Ziggler.
Indeed, talented as Vickie as, she should be back in the main event scene, causing trouble. And what better way than to reveal she was the one behind Nash’s actions at Summerslam?
Why did she do it? Well, that’s for WWE writers to figure out, but we reckon she’s a dark horse in this race.
Batista
9 of 12After leaving WWE last year to pursue Hollywood stardom, Dave Batista hasn’t really set the world on fire with his acting career (it would help if he could actually act).
Unsurprisingly, most of his straight-to-dvd movies have quickly vanished without a trace as he limps from one awful project to the next.
With this in mind, a return to WWE wouldn’t entirely be out of the question for Dave, who is surely aware he has only a few money-making years left in wrestling. We reckon Batista shockingly being revealed as the man behind Nash’s actions would be a great way to reintroduce him to fans.
Rikishi
10 of 12He did it for Da’Rock, obviously.
Mick Foley
11 of 12All indications are that Mick Foley, after a disastrous and deeply frustrating TNA stint, will be looking to work with WWE again in the near future.
And what better storyline to introduce him than unveiling him as the dastardly individual who is pulling Nash’s strings? Foley as a face has been done before, and may be tired, but there’s ripe potential in Foley on WWE television as a crazy, out-of-control heel.
R-Truth
12 of 12Now this would be a conspiracy.
And it would make some sense. An enraged R-Truth, unhappy at how far he has fallen down the card since he was main eventing a few months ago, could be revealed as the one who stole HHH’s phone and asked Kevin to interfere at Summerslam, with the aim of messing with the entire corporate structure of WWE.
