NFL Roster Cuts 2011: 6 Dallas Cowboys Most Likely To Be Released on Tuesday
It’s inevitable. Roster cuts are a part of life for an NFL player and the majority of NFL players will face this unavoidable fate one day.
On Tuesday a few Cowboys will see their names on the list of players who are no longer with the team.
Some of them may include a fan favorite or a few rookies. Maybe a special teamer or a running back won’t make the final list.
Sad day for many NFL players but its necessary.
Here are six Cowboys likely to be released by Tuesday.
David Buehler, K
1 of 6Buehler’s days are pretty much done in Dallas. If you’re injured and you can’t play then it's pretty tough to make a team. He’s been up and down for Dallas, and he’s about as inconsistent as they come in terms of kicking field goals.
The Cowboys signed veteran kicker Shayne Graham last week, and that basically made Buehler expendable.
Buehler should find himself on the list of roster cuts on Tuesday.
Andre Gurode, C
2 of 6This story about Gurode’s recent troubles in Dallas came as a surprise. The Pro Bowl center had knee surgery in the offseason but was expected to return to start the season. Then news emerges that the ‘Boys want him to take a pay cut before the season starts.
Gurode didn’t play last night against the Vikings and had nothing to say to the media regarding his standing with the team.
If he does not take a healthy cut in pay then Gurode’s days with Dallas are numbered. But even if Andre decides to restructure his deal, he’s not likely to start the season at the center position; that’s likely to go to offensive lineman Phil Costa.
Andre Gurode, a fan favorite but he may not be a Cowboy come Tuesday.
Igor Olshansky, DL
3 of 6With Olshansky it’s just a matter of when he’ll get cut not if anymore. He’s looked slow during preseason as he was pushed around against San Diego and Denver.
Igor is playing behind defensive lineman Kenyon Coleman, and as of right now, Coleman is a virtual lock to make the team.
Olshasnky has been a disappointment since joining the Cowboys and his release was only inevitable.
Brandon Williams, LB
4 of 6Williams play in training camp and in the preseason leave a lot to be desired. He’s a three-year veteran and has never lived up to expectations.
With the emergence of rookie Alex Albright and the team drafting Bruce Carter, there is no room for Williams.
Look for Williams to get cut Tuesday and if it doesn’t happen then its coming soon.
Lonyae Miller, RB
5 of 6Judging by his play as of late, I think undrafted rookie Phillip Tanner will make it over Miller.
Lonyae had a nice start to training camp leading some to believe that running back Tashard Choice would be cut.
He’s tailed off as of late with Tanner starting to emerge he should get the nod over Miller.
Chris Gronkowski, FB
6 of 6Honestly, I think Gronkowski and rookie Shaun Chapas will be cut. The Cowboys are likely to keep four tight ends instead of one fullback.
I like Chapas, and he’s played well enough to warrant a roster position with Dallas.
If Bennett’s ankle injury lingers, then Chapas may make the team. But as of right now, I believe neither full-back will end up being a Cowboy on Tuesday.
