WWE SmackDown Recap: 10 Biggest Moments from Last Night
Hello, folks! I was a little worried that SmackDown would not be able to keep up with the fast pace the WWE has set itself this week. After all, we have had three straight months of quality programming, something that hasn’t really occurred since around 2002, so you can understand my reservations.
Nevertheless, it proved to be more than worth my while, so here are the 10 biggest moments from last night! Enjoy!
This article will be a regular feature from me every week, no matter how many people post it before me. Rest assured this is a lot different to the one already posted.
Somebody’s Gonna Get Their A** Kicked in Murky Vision
1 of 11I do not usually watch the opening vignettes, recapping what has transpired the week before, but I couldn’t resist last night. The whole thing had me hooked from the get go.
Seeing Mark Henry dominate in a murky, distorted production is better than watching him obliterate people in crystal clear HD.
It really did get me pumped for SmackDown!
Bret Hart Is Cheered Like He Just Won the SuperBowl
2 of 11SmackDown emanated from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, so it was only to be expected that Bret Hart would get a huge pop.
I do wish, though, that he wasn’t so cringe-worthy when challenging wrestlers half his age.
Christian may not have stood a chance against you years ago, Bret, but like he says, “Let it go.”
Mark Henry Leaves Bret Hart Wounded
3 of 11Mark Henry owned Bret Hart, sort of. What I would have liked to see was Bret Hart refuse Mark Henry a title shot.
Something tells me we wouldn’t have been seeing Hart for a while after that.
On a serious note, it would have made Mark Henry more of a heel than the back of my foot.
Also, considering Bret Hart only appeared at the start of the show, he might as well have destroyed him in an angry rage...it could have been relived in murky vision next week.
The Pop for Sheamus! (Part I)
4 of 11Sheamus is becoming more and more popular—so much so that his pop rivalled Bret Hart’s!
I love Sheamus as a face, and it gives me goosebumps every time he stands up to Mark Henry.
I have loved Sheamus from the start, even when everyone was slating him. I was happy when he was WWE Champion, and I’ll be happy when he is eventually World Heavyweight Champion.
Wade Barrett Is Above Facing a Jobber
5 of 11Wade Barrett just walked away from a jobber he was supposedly going to squash, adding to the speculation that we are now in what many have dubbed "the reality era."
Fat Sin Cara Is Still Awesome
6 of 11I don’t care if the match had to be re-taped, he is miles better than Mistico.
Fat Sin Cara really gets the crowd going a lot more than Mistico did, although it could be argued that Mistico did the hard work in winning them over.
Nevertheless, I say keep Hunico, repackage Mistico—I’m a poet, but I totally knew it.
Ted Surprised Everyone, but You Couldn’t Tell Due to the Paper Bags
7 of 11Ted showed he could hang with top talents such as Randy Orton in a singles match.
This just highlighted to me how underutilised DiBiase is in the WWE.
I think he needs a gimmick and something to work, too. I’m hoping a feud with Cody Rhodes can help to elevate him further up the ladder.
Ezekiel Debuted Some New Trunks
8 of 11He now wears black instead of red. Maybe Mark Henry is giving him tips?
The Pop for Sheamus! (Part II)
9 of 11Sheamus got another huge pop on the way down to the ring.
Just thought it was worth a mention.
Read "Part I" for the reason why.
1-1...Decider?
10 of 11Mark Henry ended up losing his bout with Sheamus via count-out, mirroring SummerSlam.
Mark Henry soon cut the victory short, however, as he executed the World’s Strongest Slam on the Celtic Warrior.
Oh yeah, and it was on the steel steps.
Ouch.
