Top NBA Rookie Rankings
There are a lot of options to choose from on my first edition of NBA rookie rankings, but I'm going to have to go with the player doing the most for his team, Derek Rose.
"Stats as of 6:15 PM CT 11/15/08"
1. Derek Rose, PG, Chicago: PPG 18.4 RPG 5.1 APG 5.3 MPG 39.0
He is pretty much doing it all for the Bulls: rebounding, scoring, and dishing assists.
2. O.J. Mayo, SG, Memphis: PPG 21.0 RPG 4.6 APG 2.4 MPG 39.0
Even though he is scoring more and putting up 33 and 31 point games back to back, he seems a little one dimensional at this point.
3. Michael Beasley, PF, Miami: PPG 16.7 RPG 5.9 APG 1.6 MPG 34.0
Michael Beasley is a rising star in my opinion, but still needs to work at his defense. It seems he wants to be too much of a shot blocker than to straight defend, but is still having a good first nine games.
4. Rudy Fernandez, SG, Portland: PPG 14.8 RPG 2.6 APG 2.0 MPG 28.0
While only playing 28.0 MPG, Fernandez is still very energetic and will probably be considered for the rookie of the year award because of his scoring ability.
5. Marc Gasol, C, Memphis: PPG 12.0 RPG 7.7 APG 0.9
Marc Gasol has averaged a lower point total than expected in the past few games. He is still averaging a point total of 12 and rebound total of seven; gets the edge over Luc Mbah a Moute.
So look out next week for the next edition of my top NBA rookie rankings for the 2008-2009 season!
