WWE SmackDown Preview: Bret Hart as GM, Sheamus and Daniel Bryan
Hello folks! Welcome to a preview of tonight’s edition of SmackDown. You will be pleased to know that this article does not contain any spoilers and I wish to keep the comments section free from them as well.
WWE has been pumping out quality programming consistently for around three months now, and it will be interesting to see if they can keep up with this tonight.
WWE.com has announced that Bret Hart will be the acting GM for the night. My question is: What can he bring to SmackDown that makes me think it was a good decision to have him involved?

I hope he does not get involved in any matches, due to it being cringe-worthy when he does so, as he is not as agile and athletic in the ring as he used to be. As much as I would love to see him return to the squared circle at full strength, it isn’t going to happen.
The most likely scenario is Bret announcing a match that is unexpected, making the crowd believe that because he is standing in, he is shaking things up—steering away from the regimented structure of the show.
I can guarantee that he will be seen more than once, in the ring and backstage, dishing out matches and interacting with superstars—I hope he has a segment with Long Island Iced Z! It is “ZackDown” after all...
A Hart Foundation reunion isn’t going to happen, despite what it would mean for the tag team division. With David Hart Smith being released from his contract, that makes a return of the stable fairly unlikely.
The biggest reason I can think of for Bret being there, is because it is in his hometown of Calgary Alberta Canada, he’ll get a huge pop, and he doesn’t have to travel far to make an appearance. Other than that, I don’t think there will be a point to his presence.
My next point is regarding The Celtic Warrior, Sheamus. I will be interested to see how he gets involved in the night’s proceedings. I would very much like to see him in the title picture, so I am hoping for a Sheamus/Henry showdown so he can gain a spot in the match at Night of Champions.
Putting Sheamus in a triple threat would just add to the list of excellent ideas the WWE has conceived over the past few months.
The other way Sheamus could be involved in SmackDown is if he interferes in some way, in a match involving either Randy Orton or Mark Henry, resulting in him standing tall as the alpha male of SmackDown. This would also prove that he is a real contender for the title.
The worst thing that could happen with Sheamus is if he somehow loses a match or is beaten during his interference. If either happens then any hopes at a shot at the title will be dashed.
Finally, I’d like to talk about the recent Money in the Bank winner Daniel Bryan. He has been on a losing streak like Sheamus when he won King of the Ring. The guy cannot get a win on his stats. I am hoping this all changes tonight on SmackDown.
Daniel Bryan is potentially the next World Heavyweight Champion and will be headlining WrestleMania if all goes to plan. The problem is, he needs to look strong for a long time so people feel he actually stands a chance of winning the title. However, he is losing match after match which is slowly making him look weak and unworthy.
Sorry to sound medieval but it’s true.
I’m not saying that if he loses tonight then all will be lost, but it will be harder for him to be built back up.
Nevertheless, there is the argument that he looks strong every time he is defeated anyway so this makes no difference. However, even a strong loser needs to win once in a while right?
