FHL: Dashers, Rock Crushers, Warriors and Aviators Add to Camp Rosters
Four more roster additions were made in the past few days: Danville adding some offense from across the pond, Green Mountain finds depth for the blueline, a surprise goalie signing for Akwesasne and a rookie gets his shot in Brooklyn.
Danville Dashers
Elvis Zelubovskis comes to Danville from Primutchin, Latvia, by way of France where he played last season in the French 3rd division for Lyon. Zelubovskis has played in Latvia, Belarus and France since 03/04 and the 25-year-old has shown an ability to produce at just about every stop along the way, including putting up 34 points in 14 games last season, while adding another 13 in eight playoff games.
He seems to bring an edge to his game as well. With 48 PIM in the regular season and another 37 in the postseason last year, he may not have much trouble adapting to the North American style. Not that he'll need to do much fighting in Danville, with the roster they're assembling.
Green Mountain
The Rock Crushers officially added defenseman Brad Ritter to their roster on a try-out agreement today. He was another player who had earned a tryout from free-agent camp before the team went on hiatus, and has once again been added to the camp roster. Ritter brings just three games of pro experience to the table, all in the AAHL when he appeared in two games for the West Michigan Blizzard in 09/10, registering no points and 5 PIM, and one game for the Wooster Korn Kings in 10/11, also going point less but receiving 21 PIM for his fight with Queen City's Josh Tucker, in which Ritter was assessed an aggressor game misconduct.
The most significant statistical information available on Ritter is that he played 33 games for the Philadelphia Thunder of the short-lived Northern Junior Hockey League, where he tallied 13 points and 76 PIM. Although listed at 5-foot-9, 192 lbs, Ritter looks to be a bit taller than that in his 2010 fight with Mason Cossette, when both were in the AAHL. With Cossette now a member of 1000 Islands, it will be interesting to see if a rematch is in the cards. Based on what's available, Ritter looks like he's willing to mix it up, a good sign for a Green Mountain club with no fighters to speak of. If he brings that element, Ritter could find himself on the opening-night roster.
Akwesasne Warriors
An interesting signing out of nearby Cornwall, ON, as the Warriors signed goaltender Adam Thompson, who last played professionally in the mid-1990's. The Lake Superior State product bounced around AA for two seasons after college with stops in Tulsa, South Carolina, Memphis, Johnstown and San Antonio. In 31 games in the CHL and ECHL, Thompson went 15-6-1 with a GAA right around 4.75. Thompson will be 39 by opening night and is signed to a standard contract, so the Warriors must feel that he's sharp enough to at least be a #2 in this league. Although no information is available, one would have to assume that Thompson has been playing senior league somewhere to keep his game at a high level.
Brooklyn Aviators
Fresh out of American juniors and the NAHL, Berkley Scott will join the Aviators on a try-out deal. Fourth on the Coulee Region Chill in scoring last season, the 6'4" Scott did a little bit of everything for the Chill, slotting 12 goals, 32 assists, 53 PIM and a +11 rating. He looks like a possible third line role player for Brooklyn if he can make the transition to the pro game.
