Breaking News: LSU Reports Jordan Jefferson and Joshua Johns Suspensions
Earlier reports Friday from the Associated Press confirmed that arrest warrants were issued for both LSU Tiger quarterback Jordan Jefferson and linebacker Joshua Johns. It has been confirmed now by Joe Schad of ESPN and a press release from LSU that both the quarterback and linebacker have been suspended indefinitely from the LSU football team.
These suspensions and warrants come just one week after the August 19 bar fight allegedly involving Jefferson and Johns, among others. Jefferson and Johns could face felony charges for their alleged roles in a fight outside Shady’s bar in Baton Rouge last Friday night. The investigation is ongoing into the involvement of the players in the fight and their potential continuing suspension as the season continues.
The police report says Victoria Long, a 19-year-old woman eyewitness saw several LSU players beating one of the alleged victims and also saw Jefferson kick that same man in the face.
According to police, one of the people that was injured suffered three fractured vertebrae—a serious enough injury to warrant felony second-degree battery charges for the person who caused the injuries.
To add to the mess for LSU, yesterday the Tigers also suspended junior wide receiver Russell Shepard for the season opener against Oregon on September 3 according to NOLA.com. Shepard’s suspension is for conferring with a teammate regarding an NCAA investigation—unrelated to the bar fight.
The Cowboy Classic will now be without a star for both teams after the Oregon Ducks suspended junior cornerback Cliff Harris for the opener because of a traffic violation. He was cited for driving 118 MPH on June 12. Harris’ passenger in the car was quarterback Darron Thomas who was not punished in the incident.
