Kurt Angle: Breaking News and MMA Update

Joe Burgett Nov 15, 2008

As some of you may know, Kurt Angle has expressed interest in being a part of MMA before his career is over, which seems to be likely to happen.

Two TNA contracts are set to expire in the spring of 2009: One being Rhino and the other being Kurt Angle. It seems that if the WWE expressed interest in one of them they would sign, but it looks unlikely for either one.

For Rhino, it is very unlikely they would have interest. For Angle: he is not going to resign with TNA or go to the WWE because he will be going to MMA. UFC President Dana White said that he had expressed interest in signing Angle before he went to TNA.

Obviously, he never signed it because he was more focused on going to TNA.

Plus he would be featured a lot more there than in UFC.

Also there is a huge chance that there could be a potential match between the winner of the Heavyweight Championship match at UFC 91.

UFC star Brock Lesnar has stated in interviews that Angle would not reach his success if he signed with the promotion, which could lead to a showdown between the two.

This is a matchup which White feels would be a huge draw if it were to happen and could even break the record UFC 91 is expected to do.

Randy Courture has also expressed interest in Angle and would like to face him in a submission-grappling match, which would undoubtedly draw a huge crowd as well.

As you know, UFC is now focused on selling PPVs instead of giving people great fights. Take the Brock Lesnar vs Randy Couture match for starters.

I'm not saying it's not going to be competitive but it is not going to be a long one.

Being realitively new to MMA I know a lot about it, but not enough to go full detail on what will happen in the fight obviously.

Kurt Angle is an Olympic Gold Medalist, you hear a lot about that if you watch pro-wrestling, and he is the only one in pro-wrestling history to ever have one.

When he goes to MMA that will not be the case.

People are just as good and better than he is at the best stuff he is good at. Angle is great when it comes to on the mat wrestling or submissions. But get him in a slugging battle and he will lose.

It is kind of opposite when it comes to Lesnar he is a good striker (when he actually hits someone), and can knock the daylight out of you.

He is a former NCAA Champion wrestler. Yet, he is not as good on the mat as everyone thinks he could be.

That matchup would make a huge draw at a UFC PPV. Look for Angle to come out a winner if it gets to the ground; however, with a history of neck injuries for Angle, don't be surprised to see Lesnar exploit that.

Angle will go to MMA and is already training to go, obviously he is still employed by TNA so no contract talks have been made between Angle and UFC.
